Way off-topic, but I love this designer. Don't have this book (and I'm not knitting at all right now), but I have done her top-down Aran and loved it.

Book is well written, the design considerations are at an appropriate level, and I think it will help me create a design for what I want. I've got innumerable patterns that are close, but not really quite what I'm looking for, or that have some basic structural problem that makes converting / modifying it not particularly appealing. The closest to what I want are a couple of Alice Starmore patterns I've got, but I'd have to completely redo them to change the sizing. So I think I'll do better starting from scratch, and this should help with that.

Though I'm not knitting right now, I'll have to take a look at this book. As I said, I love Ms. Szabo's work.

Finished with Book 5 of the Wheel of Time, The Fires of Heaven. I'm currently re-reading/continuing the series. I know the first time round I gave up, but I don't know at which book I stopped. I'm guessing it was book 6.

Things dragged on in this one to an excruciating level, but the ending was well worth it. I think Jordan has the ability to almost stretch you to breaking point with slow progress and then suddenly reward you with something awesome happening.

I'm going to need a break before tackling the next one.

An interesting second-world-war spy mystery, catching up with Tommy and Tuppence in their middle-age. Published in 1941, so presumably written in 1940, the date when the story is set.

I urge you not to give up on King. The Dome was arguably one of his weakest books. Try The Stand or It. Either one should change your mind.

My suggestion is to try something more accessible (re: shorter and more favorably received).

Try "Night Shift," his first collection of short stories.

You picked one of the worst books he's ever written - in my opinion.

Just finished One Summer: David Baldacci

Not read any of his books before though I have another in my TBR list. Hopefully his more usual thrillers will be better than this. He seemed to manage to cram every cliché in the book, into this one.

Thank you both. Unfortunately I asked around if the Dome is worth reading before I bought it (in another thread here) and those opinions were in favour, so I followed. I understand tastes are different so nobody is to blame. And I don't like horror stories so IT is out (I saw the film, brrr)

I will give another go at 63/22/11 (here translated as Dallas'63) when it comes out as ebook (only in print for the moment)

My suggestion is to try Different Seasons, a collection of four Stephen King novellas, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, The Body and The Breathing Method. The first three have been made into successful Hollywood movies and they are not considered to be in the Horror Genre.

Just Finished:

- A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin - Phew! I bought the "Game of Thrones" 4-ebook bundle last summer, but at 3500 pages it took me the better part of a year to get through it all. This was my least favorite book of the series so far, but reading it simultaneously with the next book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, made it drag a little bit less.

It didn't really build to any kind of huge finale the way the last few books did, it just kind of ended. And almost all the POV characters in the book were either characters I don't care about or characters I've never heard of before. And the Starks are barely in this at all, with three measly Arya chapters and three Sansa chapters, none of which really furthered their characters along at all. I have no idea how they'll adapt this book into the TV series, other than combining it with ADwD and stretching out the Stark girls' arcs and embellishing them a lot.

I think about half (or more) of this book could have been chopped out without sacrificing too much of the main story. GRRM gets too caught up in the minute details of the war, and minor characters that are seen once or twice and never again. I think readers care about the characters we've grown to love and just want to see the war through their eyes, not read about the war for the throne as if it's a history book.

Currently Reading:

- Whitechapel: The Last Stand of Sherlock Holmes by Bernard J. Schaffer (64%)

- A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin (51%)

- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain (~20%) [on hold]

I'm so jealous! I wish I still had half of ADwD to look forward to.

If you find yourself facing withdrawal symptoms when you finish it (as I did), here's a sample chapter of The Winds of Winter!
