Is Apple betting the farm on the new iPad (iPad3 or iPadHD or ?)?

CPU is dual core still. It doesn't need to be quad core. It'll stil run smoother than any other tablet on the market.

Yes. because market grows not because they stop or stall ipad sales. New people not owning a tablet are now buying fires -- I played with one in Targert yesterday. They are nice!

the iPad 3 is slightly heavier (660g vs. 600g) and fatter than its predecessor — both of which will accommodate a larger battery. 60 grams is actually quite a lot; the Galaxy S II only weighs 116g. Where the iPad 2 has a 6,930mAh battery, the iPad 3 battery might be almost double that, towards the 10,000 mAh region.

Grandfathered "unlimited" data plans are only applicable to smartphones NOT tablets -- the carriers require a separate data plan, regardless of an existing account. Even for smartphones, the so-called unlimited data plans are slowly being reduced by data throttling when exceeding specific amounts of data usage.

I'm sure the Apple fans will point out the 4 core GPU will make for killer games to fight it out with the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS but since I do my gaming on Xbox I have no interest on any of the above.

The New iPad is clearly more interested in gamers than people who appreciate Quad core CPUs.

Slightly heavier. 1.33kg for the iPad2 against 1.4kg for the iPad3 - ie 70g difference. It's presumably because in order to maintain the same battery life they've used a larger battery.

But remember that the Fire is only sold in the US, and is thus not a consideration for most people.

The cynic in me would say that Apple only give their customers a few updates at a time, to "force" you to upgrade. Quad-cores are mature enough to be released in tablets, but why give you a quad-core now, when they can get you to upgrade now for retina display, and upgrade again in a year to get quad-core?

Quad core CPUs use significantly more power. Apple have already increased the size (and weight) of the battery in order to maintain the same battery life that the iPad 2 has. A quad core CPU would mean either significantly more weight, or significantly shorter battery life in return for little gain for the typical user.

What's archaic ... pounds of Kg? ... because last time I read, USA and England are the only countries in the world that have not adopted Metric System.

Sadly, when I drive a car in Colombia, I have no sense of speed anymore :-( ... of course, my sport bike and car use miles.
