It is official. I cannot see my feet any more. I have to lean forward to catch a glimpse.

I am having skim milk with my PBJ toast right now.

I've seen leather presses offered for sale for that purpose, which seems preferable to hammering. I know there are places that will cast your designs in steel, but they aren't cheap.

That Dremel idea seems really interesting.

For what it's worth, I can't see your feet either... Does that count?

I use a very specialized clamp... It looks like this. I have several different sizes depending upon where I want to put my maker's mark.

This guy
does very good work, and the prices aren't too bad. And he's close to you. But his stamps are made from Delrin, and are ONLY for veg tanned leather...

I tried making some myself using a Dremel and some files, and a Delrin rod. I made a very nice stamp that I called 'modern art' when my wife asked me what it was, and never used it on any piece I made. However, someone with a bit more patience than I have, and a lot more artistic ability, should be able to carve out some interesting stamps.

A true precision instrument! I once had to make one of those from a bar of aluminum using hand tools and files. Never saw the purpose of that time-consuming exercise.

Sounds like Jr.High shop class... For one, I had to memorize the "California Job Case," the tray that hold individual pieces of type for hand-setting printing type. I've found this a very useful skill in my later life... Not.

This came as a bit of a shock to the guys I was travelling with, the teenagers especially really freaked out.

One funny experiece a (girl) friend and I had at an outdoor pool at a hot springs was falling with a sigh into the water after spending several minutes adding cold so that we could get in without burning ourselves, then looking up to see a bridge full of people about 50 yards away. They must have had a good laugh at the middle aged foreign ladies cavorting about.

You were lucky to be allowed in... Until recently, a lot of hot spring resorts and public baths were refusing foreigners, claiming that they didn't wash themselves well enough before getting into the baths, or weren't rinsing the soap off themselves enough and getting the water dirty. Many still won't allow people in who have tattoos.

It appears I waited too long to pick up a few titles off of my wishlist for my Kindle. Most of the titles have jumped $5 in price since I last looked. Almost all of them cost more than the paper equivalents and are around $15. Perhaps it's time to sell my e-reader. It's quickly becoming absolutely useless since I always base my purchases on price.

It sound as if the PC insanity has yet to flourish (as much) there. Can you imagine the anti-discrimination suit that would result from that happening in the US?

There is a Kindle "Deals" thread that you might want to follow. It may not include items from your wish list, but it can introduce you to new authors that you may like too.

I follow those, but I've rarely found much so far and often times the deal is unavailable in Canada.

Just perusing a few items still on this year's reading list(first number is the Kindle price):
John Updike, Rabbit Run $15.87 $10.88
Catherynne M. Valente, The Orphan's Tales $15.78 $10.88
Anthony Flint, Wrestling with Moses $14.65 $10.20
Philip K. Dick, Do Androids Dream? $14.65 $8.41
Tom Robbins, Another Roadside Attraction $15.78 $10.20
Haruki Murakami, Norweigan Wood $14.65 $10.20

I think I'll go give my library a hug and maybe keep a book out for too long and pay some fines.

Before going to bed last night, I noticed the rice cooker was just about empty and wanted to make some fresh rice for our breakfast. I pressed the little button on the rice dispenser twice to make four cups of rice. This morning I woke up to rice soup!

Apparently, the little plastic 'anti-bug' device had detached itself from the side of the dispenser and fallen into the hopper. This prevented about half a cup of dry rice from coming down the chute, so when I added the proper amount of water for 4 cups, but only in fact having 3.5 cups, the cooker turned it into rice porridge!

O.K... not the end of the world, and with some stronger tasting goodies to top it off with, made a decent breakfast, but definitely NOT something I prefer to eat unless I have the flu!

Certainly a case of 'modern conveniences not being very convenient!' Had I measured the rice by hand I would have noticed the problem.

Rant mode: OFF
