stupid startup sound

How do I disable/mute the stupid startup jingle.

Only possible if you can root your device. Harder after the update unless you're a tech geek.

Here's a low tech solution: Just plug in an earphone jack. That opens the speaker circuit. Use one from a broken pair of earphones and you can cut it off so it only protrudes far enough to get it out again.

Seriously? Is there no process to have Kobo add a check box for enabling/disabling startup sound?

There is none. The start up sound is before anything is booted so even being on mute doesn't effect anything the sound still plays. The only way to rid is to root and remove the file or use Oldyeller's work around.

I just know that if they didn't have a little sound thingy at the beginning ppl. would be complaining because they don't know if their sound is working.......

rooted, then renamed the mp3 found under /system/media to *.mp3.old

Much happier now.
