Problems importing - converts files to ZIP!?

Hi folks,

Only used Calibre for a few weeks, so this may have an easy answer (hopefully).

I've been happily populating my Calibre library with about 200-odd books so far, and added a few more last night which were a variety of formats (.lit, pdfs).

I followed my normal procedure of putting the files into a particular folder on my hard drive, then imported individually - but for some reason Calibre imports them as .ZIP files only. As a result when you try to open from Calibre it takes you into windows explorer rather than opening the file in the ebook reader

I've solved this by converting each file into mobi format, but it seems the setting on Calibre have changed so importing as a zip file is somehow the default

I haven't changed anything as far as I'm aware - and the only thing I've done is import the Kindle Collections plugin.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

It is normal if you import an HTML file for them to end up in a ZIP. This is because an HTML based book normally has other associated files such as styesheets, images, more html files etc and putting them into a ZIP keeps them all together.

If you add none-HTML books that are already inside a ZIP (or RAR) then Calibre will extract them as long as there are no other files in the ZIP. If there are other files then the ZIP is added unchanged.

Thanks for the reply.

I can see the reasoning behind html files - but in my case it's doing it even with a plain old pdf!

I didn't have this issue before yesterday, so I assume it's some import setting that I've accidentally changed but can't figure where

Double check that PDF, it may really be a HTML with the wrong extension that Calibre has detected and filed appropriately.
