Brilliant book, but its taking quite some time. I'm halfway through it, and every page is as interesting as it can get!
Also reading "The Partner" by John Grisham (20%), seems interesting so far!
The Partner was good, much better than the stuff he writes now.

They're on my wishlist. I'm waiting for a good deal on them (or for my TBR pile to get down to (say) under 20).

Another good set of short stories in the 1632 universe. Although the episode of the Dodo serial almost seemed filler (in that it didn't really advance the story very much).

When I saw the two above posts I whipped out my copy (which I'd never really looked at with any interest since it came into my possession) and read the 'Editor's Preface' and 'The Prelude' after which it went directly into my TBRs (sounds just fascinating). Now back to 'James Potter'.

In hardcover, Conn Iggulden's Conqueror, the last of his fantastic Mongols series.

On Kindle, a fantasy story with a bit of humour by an Indie author called David Graham. A Sword For Hire. Less than 10% in so far, but it looks like a bit of fun.

Yup, an excellent book, and there are many more in the series. There were a couple of so-so books in the middle, but they are back to being excellent.

Also, when you finish The Beekeeper's Apprentice, you might want to read Beekeeping for Beginners. A short story in thesame timeframe and characters, but a shift in viewpoint.

Cool The James Potter Series

Last evening I finished my re-read of both James Potter and the Curse of the Gatekeeper and the associated short story Petra's Getaway which takes place in the middle of Curse of the Gatekeeper and fills in a bit of information about a character in Curse of the Gatekeeper. There's a novella, The Girl on the Dock that takes place during the Summer between Curse of the Gatekeeper and the next book in the series, James Potter and the Vault of Destinies, and I'll re-read both the novella and the novel next.

- A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin (78%)

- Whitechapel: The Last Stand of Sherlock Holmes by Bernard J. Schaffer (60%)

- A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin (51%)

- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain (~20%) [on hold]

Well, my plan of alternating chapters between A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons finally blew up in my face. I read 5 pages of a chapter in Dance before realizing it was about a Feast character, and I hadn't found out what happened to them yet at the end of that book.

So basically, if you follow my lead and alternate chapters between books 4 and 5, once you get to "The Watcher" chapter in Dance, stop reading and go back to Feast. I'm going to read the next-to-last Cersei chapter and then the "Princess in the Tower" chapter, then probably go back to alternating between books again until I'm done with Feast.

I read this 30 years ago, as well as watching the BBC/PBS version of it. But I really remember very little of it and am very much looking forward to this reread.
5 Stars. A beautifully crafted and written book. This was a wonderful read, and I cam away with an increased understanding of the era but that was purely a bonus. This is a big book, 750 pages or so, but I never got bored or tired of it. Highly recommended.

Currently "reading" the Audible version of Dana Stabenow's Restless in the Grave. Well read, and I'm enjoying it.

Next up: Aran Sweater Design by Janet Szabo. I've got some lovely blue-faced leicester yarn, and need to create something worthy of the wool.

Also next up: Gallows View, the first of the Inspector Banks books by Peter Robinson.
