![]() By the way, I have the same book light. I bought it after you recommended it in a post a year or so ago and have really liked it (thanks again!). I think you were maybe using it with a Nook Classic at the time. Although, I just found the M-edge e-Luminator light for $15 at Staples that I am using with an Oberon Kindle Touch cover with my T1. |

Sony Reader PRS T1 Luxe from Gecko
FYI!
I ordered a deluxe Gecko cover on 2/8/12 and it was sent out to California on 2/9/12. The item has still not been delivered. I emailed the company and they stated that it takes 4 weeks to deliver to the U.S. Their webpage had indicated that it would only take 5 to 10 days. |

I will be looking seriously at replacing my standard Gecko cover with the Luxe as the piano black reflectivity of the T1 is staring to jar my nerves a bit.

review gecko cover "luxe"
Hi!
Here is my review of the gecko cover "luxe" Apologies for my poor english, I'm french. Don't hesitate to correct it, I will edit this message. I take many time to choose a cover. Because the ebook reader is a tool that I should spend on average one hour per day, almost one twentieth of my time. This is far from negligible, it MUST be comfortable. I will be attentive to the details. I chose a gecko cover "luxe" blue because of positive reviews, and some other stuff that I will detail below. Commissioned on feb. 23. Acknowledgment of receipt marked "paid". Then no news. I asked a follow-up on 29, I was answered (quickly) a payment problem occurred, and that the cover will not leave until the next day. Bad start ... but it can happen. Finally received this morning, March 5 (so it requires patience). Purchase price: just under 25 euros including shipping. The price was obviously an criterion : not indecent as the original cover (50 €), not "cheap" which means lack of quality. Reception in a beautiful zippered bag : designed in Holland, made in China ... :/ ![]() Out of package: almost immediate disappointment: look a bit "cheap", marks left on the pile, a few annoying flaws (see below), foam padding cut to the bill hook (not bad, but it looks bad). Hey! Ho! I paid for "luxe" version ![]() ![]() At the opening, the tongue placed on the left side: good place to prevent discomfort during playback. Two small pockets, handy for carrying a piece of paper (I use it to drag a map of Westeros ...) A Velcro tab that will maintain the T1 correctly : good point. Contain both sides a protective plate likely to be relatively strong at the height to protect the T1 during transport. ![]() Once in the pouch, the T1 is securely packed, well protected, and reveals: - The screen - The four corners (too bad! It would still have limited risk) - All the buttons: nothing to report at the bottom, but the buttons on the front have lost much in ease of access, it's really a bad point, although it's far from unusable are hidden: - Back and then the micro SD cover (so it will take everything apart to access) - The plastic "glossy" all around the screen (except tapered portions): this is really an excellent point, especially when using light with a reading light, and this is one of the big advantages that I did choose this cover. ![]() Once closed, it seems a relatively compact, snug, rather visually pleasing. Good point. ![]() It remains the default annoying ... A nice trace of glue: ![]() Another on the amount left (this is not just a dirt: it can not be removed by rubbing) While talking about it, velvet is rather cheap and not very pleasant to the touch. I think this is a poor choice (especially as it easily takes the dust as seen in the photos) ![]() A cover that yawns at the top of the screen. That, I do not like at all! ![]() ![]() ![]() Seams really badly finished. Such a shame! ![]() ![]() In use: I open the book to 360 ° most of the time, since I hold with one hand. This is perfect for me sufficiently thick, it is held well in hand. However, the difficulty of access to the buttons is, in this particular case (one hand), almost prohibitive. ![]() Finally, this friendly little gecko who fails to make me forget the black dots above. ![]() Conclusion : A cover that does not satisfy me completely, especially because of the price compared finishes. If I had waited a little, I will probably have ordered the future leather case from gecko, which, I think, will be better for me. pros : + T1 is well protected for transporting anywhere + Exterior design is quite successful + glossy sides are hidden Cons: - Finishes to be reviewed, this is clearly not a "luxe" product - Buttons on the front facade difficult to access - Price in relation to materials and finishes Last edited by esspic; 03-05-2012 at 05:30 PM. |

That is not a very flattering review. I might need to wait and/or look elsewhere now.

Very useful photos. It's looks very similar to the Navitech one I bought, IMO, except for the velvet finish inside and a stronger 'grained leather' effect on the outside. Difficult to see in the photos, but seems to have the same tuck-in flap on top. The finish is similar (same problem with the stitching and the gaping at the bottom). Given that, not sure that this justifies being approx twice the price of the Navitech.

thanks for this information and for your kindness.
Apparently, the defects of glue and sewing are unusual. |

To ESSPIC:
The very detailed pics are great! I'm too dumb to make my camera do macros like that.
It looks to me like the molded plastic frame that actually holds the T1 is practically(exactly) the same one used with the case I prefer to use nowadays. Post #161 described the "Spartechnik" case I mean. I accidenatlly gouged it, which gave me the opportunity to let the "Leather Guy" take another look, and, lo and behold, it IS leather! Albeit, very, very, thin leather veneer. So thin, in fact, that he hadn't seen it before, except in his vocational periodicals! The guy's a genius, he repared it just fine. |
