So sounds like I need to stat reformatting the epub to convert to a better looking Mobi plus work out why I'v ended up with two linked Contents - I'll get there. |

Kindlegen is an awful product, Amazon should be ashamed of themselves. Just because it's free is no excuse for not even taking the trouble to release a Windows version. Running in a DOS box is simply out of the Ark and demonstrates that Amazon are only interested in restricting the freedoms of their customers.

Calibre is a great format convertor and they are working on a KF8 conversion as you read this. I have no doubt that it will deal with Sigil output in a thoroughly sensible and professional way (Amazon take note!). This is a big job since KF8 itself is a dog's breakfast, even if it will eventually stumble on a way to do things properly. On past performance, I expect Calibre to come up with a first version of a KF8 convertor within a month. If you use Calibre, please consider contributing financially. It's your main defence against the incompetence of Amazon. |

Calibre converts toc.ncx to a ToC page in Mobi. So that's why you don't need that internal ToC page or you WILL get two different ToC pages. |

Dude, you really don't get it do you? Like it or not: there's ePub... and then there's ePub that's gonna be a mobi. They're two different beasts. And besides... your beef with having inline ToCs in ePubs is just a personal preference that not everybody shares.

In an ePub, you can get to the external ToC fairly easily. But to get to the internal ToC, you either have to know what page number it is or go to the external ToC and then if there is a link to the internal ToC, use that to go to the internal ToC. But then if you're already at the external ToC, why do you need to go to the internal ToC?

Did you create a TOC (either manual build the NCX file, or click the Button in the TOC editor window)?

Sigil 5 no longer automatically destroys existing TOC (a requested feature) for its default version. You should see the TOC in the TOC viewer |

The problem is with Kindlegen. It doesn't respect the ToC in toc.ncx. So if you don't have a ToC internal, Kindlegen won't generate one for the Mobi. The only way to get a ToC from toc.ncx is to use Calibre to convert the ePub to Mobi.

It is, by the way, a Windows application: it's a Windows CONSOLE application. Console apps have nothing to with "DOS". |
