I appreciate that different things are important to different people, but rooting and hacking SOLELY to lock "wallpaper" that you only ever see for the few seconds that it takes you to swipe the yellow strip, is just not something I would have ever recommended. I mean, I appreciate rooting and hacking for it's own sake, so if you just wanted to geek out with it, cool, but that didn't really sound like what you were interested in. Now, rooting and hacking to get rid of Emily Dickenzombie from the K2...THAT'S worthwhile! |

The young people who figured out HOW to do it and wrote the tools impress me. As a business application developer, I give these system devs and hardware hackers a full-on Wayne's World "We're not worthy!" bow. ApK |

Mac option: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1511757 Direct link to their site: http://northmendo.com/kindlewater/ Looks dead simple, but I haven't had a chance to try it out |

If the KF drops down in price, I may get a second one to tinker with but I'm not risking bricking the only one I have. I kind of know my limitations but I'm willing to learn with a cheaper price.

The other thing though is I don't really care for having to unroot and reroot if that is what is necessary when there are new software upgrades. |

Here are some screenshots of my Kindle Fire unrooted:

Kindle Fire Rooted Click on the thumbnails at the top. Yeah, it's a mess...I have to cull some of the stuff. One screen shows circlelauncher - the one with mostly text. If you click on the text you get a semi-circle or circle of app icons. The book covers when clicked on take you to the book opened in Mantano to last page read (used Desktop Visualizer) Most of this can be done WITHOUT rooting. Weren't some of those K2 backgrounds awful? I think it was Emily that my grandson referred to as the scary lady. |

Thanks for the compliment on my KF screens. I'm still trying to pare things down and pick out which weather widget I like and get rid of a lot of the apps that I really don't use that often. It's a good thing I'm retired and can fool with this stuff to my heart's content.

I'm sure this belongs in another thread but have you read Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series? Many fans of Rain like those as well. I'm not retired but I spend all my spare time fooling with this stuff. If it wasn't the Fire it would be Ubuntu or something else. I have far too many apps. If it looks interesting, I'll download it. I'm trying to cut back. LOL |

I am addicted to apps too. I LOVE apps. I wish the KF had more space so I could load MORE up.
