Yes, but the closer they get to black, the closer they get to grey, because the less of color is visible, the more of black. In other words, an open pixel gives the color's best contrast. A closed pixel is almost as if they took the contrast away; thus it looks more grey.

Yes it looks less bright but that doesn't mean it is a shade of gray. It is the color it is and that color includes no white, all is filtered by the lens. By the way this means that while it is possible to make a black on white background have more resolution using subpixels if you invert the display to white on black background you only get 800 x 600. So black and white, in general, does not have higher resolution, only one special instance has that. None of the grays, only absolute black on a white background.

It seems that only full RED, GREEN or BLUE is at 800x600 pix.
If I would have eg dark green, the green pixel would be fully open, while the blue and red pixel would be nearly fully closed. The more open the blue and red become, the lighter the green pixel will look like to the eye, but also the more like the grey background it becomes.

Similarly, the more closed the pixels become, the more dark the green looks to the eye.

If you combine red, green and blue, and that with a white pixel, you get the background grey, not really white.

It seems I was wrong concerning the resolution.
It seems clear to me, that pure black remains at 1600x1200 pixels.
Pure RED (FF,88,88),pure green (88,FF,88),or pure blue (88,88,FF) is at 800x600 pixels.
Though these colors are very difficult to set, when the surrounding pixels only add or substract to the overall brightness of the pixel, not the contrast.

In other words, the other pixels will 'help out' the one pixel (be it red, green, or blue, or white), to increase (and put focus on) resolution (over color correctness), as well as compensate for overall pixel brightness.

Once the red has to become darker or lighter than pure red, the other pixels will compensate with their intensity, making it appear certain reds appear darker than others; while the red pixel remains fully opened. (instead of having only the red pixel get darker to control overall pixel brightness, the other pixels are doing the work)
This interpolation causes the impression of a resolution higher than 800x600 pix,of what I'd say is more like 1200x900 pixels; as it will not display 1600x1200 (eg) red pixels, but it will compensate the other 3 pixels from adding darkness to the color pixel.

I believe in computer terms this effect is called 'dithering'; actually, the opposite of dithering!
Dithering is also used in old 256 color gif animations (or old computer games), by using a grid pattern to give the impression that the image in reality has more colors than it actually has.
This method is the opposite. To use other pixels to compensate for one pixel's weakness, to increase sharpness and impression of resolution (in a distant way it's kind of like scaling a 1920x1200 pix image on a 1200x900 screen, the image is perfectly visible, but very small; and letters are readable but barely; small black lines will be visible but instead of consuming 1 pixel width (RGB), it now uses up only 2 of the 3 pixels). That's why on CRT monitors, you could get crazy-ass resolutions; and though the text became more blurry the smaller you got, you still could read at way higher resolutions than the monitor's native resolution!

I do not see highlighting on your list
Nothing about exporting scribbles, the format, where they are stored, compatibility with desktop apps
And more than anything, as lorenzo asked, where is the SDK :-)

If reflow refers to PDFs that is not a big deal. PDF is not very tolerant
I would also like to see how good is the scribbling in working with zoom levels font changes and all the plethora of options we already have on M92.
If you want I can make a list and you tell me what you have (when you receive the new software)
I would also like to see the navigation, the workflow and panning and zooming....
these are crucial to the work efficincy
The postion of the tool buttons while in annotation mode also matters and I would like to hear about that
Let's forget for a little while that you have a color ereader and stop these endless discussions and dissections about color

Currently the Jetbook Color seems to have either Russian/English or Spanish/English as the Primary/Secondary languages.

@LeftyRight: I know very little of these Operating systems, but are you looking for a dictionary file, or changing the language of the operating system?

If some sort of dictionary file,it'd probably be possible to compare the filesystem of both ENG and RUS operating system, and trying to find the dictionary file. Then copy that file within the other operating system; I'm sure there must be a way to have all 8 languages installed... (provided if there's enough disk space).

As for me, I'm pretty happy with Eng-Esp, because I live in an environment where both are used,and could greatly benefit of both!

@Lubib: about the new FW update:
Great news indeed! I hope the next OS upgrade will be just as good as this one, though more realistically, I see browser and wifi support, and a few minor upgrades.
I really hope they would at least release several minor, or stability upgrades in the future, and not keep it with 1 more FW upgrade in April! I'm sure one more FW upgrade would not address all remaining issues.

I was hoping to also use the jetbook color to learn another language, as well as, an e-reader.

I want the original language to stay english but be able to translate everything into german like it currently does for spanish or russian depending on what firmware version one has.

If you view the video (at 16:10 minute mark) in my previous post you will get what I mean.

They are using a jetbook color with the russian/english firmware hence ONLY those 2 languages appear in the menu.

So basically a dictionary/translation tool/language learner for german/english is what I am after.

The CPen appears to be a USB connectable optical character recognition peripheral used on a lot of the Ectaco translators and at least one of the other eReaders (the K-12). There's a video here that shows it in use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XIGBI1HXAo#t=12m04s

Edited to add: It just occurred to me - if the CPen is intelligent itself and just acting like a USB keyboard, that opens up the possibility of plugging in a real keyboard! At the very least it shows the jetBook Color (and K-12) have USB host capability.

. As far as i understood it, some people might get their updates as late as the 7th of MArch...

The cynical part of me thinks the update isn't actually ready yet, and the stuff about not overloading their servers (in their dreams) is cover for that. I mean, how many can they have sold to the general public? There's only about five here, and still a complete lack of videos and pictures on the internet at large.

But that's all just pure speculation on my part.

How does it communicate with the device?
I suppose it does not have a battery, but more likely the device is intelligent, and the pen is just a passive responder, like a magnet or so...

Have you noticed anything like a power source on the pen?

Are you talking about the stylus that comes with the jetBook, or the CPen that Kris777 asked about and I described above? The stylus is (I assume) a passive electromagnetic device that the jetBook digitizer layer detects. The CPen is a USB device as explained above.
