Best case scenario: The books are available for sale on April 30th as well as at the library.

Worst case scenario: JKR is using this as a way to gage interest in the e-books and see if she really does need to sell them.

Either way: Bootleg & converted versions of the library editions will start bouncing around the torrents on May 1.

My prediction: this will have absolutely no recognizable effect on sales, which will go through the roof as soon as they're available.

I did not say that it was feasible but that it was the best case scenario. I don't think for a second that the books will be available for sale on 30 April. But I can be optimistic, right? It is better for my baby if I think positive thoughts. (winks)

Nope. (Well, author's notes & intro stuff, but not in the main body of text.) But they'll be the "OFFICIAL!!!!" versions, so they'll join the collection, and replace some of the current digital versions.

Possibly, some people will share them without checking the metadata & whatever's used for watermarking, so they'll be tracked down. Lawsuits may occur, but it's not particularly likely. I'd expect a lot of C&D letters to be thrown around, though.

I'll be interested to see if they even bother to watermark them. Does OverDrive support watermarks, besides the obvious on-page "This book was purchased through OverDrive for library use only" kind?

Libraries won't have watermarked versions (I think? Maybe could have the name of the library?), but if versions are offered for sale at the same time... ah, they won't be watermarked either, unless they're sold through Pottermore.

They may have just scrapped the watermark idea and not told anyone because they don't want to get flak for it.

That's too long. If the books are actually released on April 30, you'll suddenly find hundreds, maybe even thousands of torrents with unDRM'ed versions of the library editions on April 30.

I'm glad we are getting the US versions. The US version of the paper editions are better laid out. I'm hoping we do get all those nice fonts as well.

Why would there be author's notes & intro stuff in a book for children? When I was young that was the stuff I skipped.

And if there's nothing added I don't really see a reason to upload them. Everybody who pirates and wanted to read the ebooks already has them.
