Hi, I had this problem when I was eleven, eventually it developed to such a stage that everything around me that wasnt within a few metres also became blurry, I can't blame it on reading though but that was how I first noticed it and i have been wearing glasses since, so going on 25 years now.

What some of the others have said is really important, every 20 minutes or so, try to look up and focus on whatever is the furthest away from you for a couple of minutes at least in order to give your eyes a break and use a different muscle for lack of a better expression.

Might be worth getting an eye test as well, just to be sure.

You are right, there are muscles behind the eyes which allow your eyes to change shape and focus.

I have this issue too, I control it by looking up once in a while. A quick break or refocusing some where else helps. It's a lot like staring at a computer screen all day.

Yep, presbyopia. Finally got me in my early 50s and the reason I'm now wearing glasses. Reading wasn't really a problem, nor was distance vision -- but switching between the two was increasingly problematic. I often read while having a ballgame on TV, and had problems focusing when looking up from my (e)book to check a score or ticker.

I have this issue too, also, I'm in my mid 20's so I don't think it's age related. I notice if I read for an hour or so without a break, it takes me close to 2 hours to regain my regular vision.

You need a book light. It increases readability by maybe 50%. I had headaches before I got one.

I would strongly recommend seeing an ophthalmologist or an optometrist. If you are under 40 I would see one that specializes in binocular vision problems.

Have you noticed the article on Flex Lighting on the front page? I can't wait until that reaches production.

I'll be testing my eyes/kindle out with the sans-serif font as well as larger sizes to see if those fix it, but I wanted to see if this was a common or at least a recognized problem.
i have just noticed my mainly distance vision quite blurred after reading Kindle on mobile, it is horrible and scared me. Is the device going to damage my etes long term, i am wary now of using it.

It's called the "20-20-20 Rule" and a similar (or perhaps identical) link has been posted on MobileRead before, but perhaps it's worth a Post-It note on all our computer screens as a reminder:

http://www.labnol.org/software/compu...xercise/14069/

In a nutshell: For every 20 minutes of reading, take a break and focus on an object at least 20 feet distant for 20 seconds. Your eyes will thank you.

It happens to me all the time for some reason. My eye doc suggested frequent breaks and just focus on something in the distance, not necessary to take more than a few seconds. It does help, but not a s much as I would like.

Never consult an "optician" about a vision problem. You should consult either an "ophthalmologist" (an MD specializing in diseases of the eye) or an "optometrist" (a specialist trained primarily in prescribing proper eyeglass lenses and contact lenses).

In the US, as a rule, optometrists receive much more training in the optical issues involved in corrective lenses. They are trained to screen for medical issues, but are not medical doctors. Ophthalmologists, on the other hand, are medical doctors whose primary schooling is in diseases of the eye and the medical procedures to correct them. They receive some training in prescribing corrective lenses, but unless they specifically do extra work in that area they receive significantly less such training than optometrists.

Opticians are specialists in making and fitting corrective lenses only.

Hi, I have owned a kindle 4 and also a kindle touch currently. I am not sure why, but I my eyes do get really tired and dry when reading for long. I thought kindle should be good on the eye just like a book. I used to have eye strains on my lcd last time, but now as I turn down the brightness I can use it longer hours than my kindle.

My eyes get blurry after reading for a long time on both the kindle and physical books. I get lost in the book and forget to focus my eyes at a distance intermittently. There's no eye-strain though, and the blurriness lasts no more than a few minutes. It's not a new problem for me. I have memories of having difficulty re-focussing my eyes quickly in my childhood when I ran out to play after having done my homwork
