The Poll is incomplete.
I would not buy an eBook with ads under any circumstance. Period. |

For me, it would depend on the nature of the ads, how they're placed, and the discount offered to have an ad-sponsored book. |

I did not vote because I would absolutely not read a book with ads between chapters. No matter how free!
I would consider a free book with ads in the beginning and end. I would even accept an ad on the cover. It would have to be a significant price reduction though. Not just a couple of $$. |

I can think of amusing cases for product placement within books...
Harry opened his potions eBook on his iPad 2 and casually waved his Nike wand transfiguring his Pepsi to Coke and wondered why the house elves would only deliver Pepsi. He mused that it was likely the same reason that they only ever got Pizza Hut pizza. |

It all really depends on the author. If it's a favorite author, and the price is more than $10 for something just published, I'd accept ads for free or a significantly lower price. But if the book was $2.99, I'd probably rather just pay the $2.99 and have ads.
And ad at the end of every chapter would be too much--even for free, but at the beginning, middle and end would be acceptable. |

I would not accept a book with ads even for free.
I buy stuff, and even without ads, I wake up the next morning knowing that barring an apocalypse, more stuff will be around for sale when I get more money. I don't want my "escape items" to be reminding me of this, because I get reminders all over the place as it is. |

I voted yes with #2. BUT only if the ads were at the beginning or end of the book. I really don't want one between chapters.

Depends on the book, and the price, and possibly how I am feeling that day.
![]() The authors I love and want to reread I would prefer -- and pay for -- no ads at all. But (as has already been stated) I never had big problems with the ads in the front and back of paperbacks (and hardcovers!) touting the author's other works or the publishers other authors, so I voted #2. |

I'd rather pay full price than have ad's. I use Ad block software so I can't see it on the Web.
I record or Time slip TV so I can ffwd ads. Definitely don't want them in books. |

I think I would be fine with ads interspersed through a free book, so long as they are clearly separate from the book itself. For instance, every 10 page turns I got an ad like the screen saver on my Kindle Touch w/Special Offers, that would be acceptable. Product placements, not so much.

Wouldn't bother me, adverts are in just about everything else anyway. It's a model that works well with mobile phone programs, and most ebooks have in-house advertising in them anyway so it's no great leap to have paid spots in them. I'd be surprised if some of the bigger selling titles don't already have product placement in them too.

If the book cost significantly more than $2.99 (like the $10 ebook I decided against today), and had ads at the beginning and end - but not between chapters - I'd consider it. For $2.99 -pffft. I can afford $2.99.

I don't want ad's anywhere anytime. What would be cool is a Netflix for books though.
