So you don't have to fight your kids to use them.

In the ad, two of the Kindles are Kindle Fires (video, music, apps, web). Only the one the mother is reading on is e-ink.

Her husband was on the way, wonder if he had another Kindle?

I love my Kindle Keyboard and wouldn't give it up for anything.

But my husband's iPad is pretty neat too.

The Kindle carries hundreds of books in a small light package that doesn't strain mye eyes--very useful when I went to visit family for Christmas.

But the iPad could take pictures of all our D&D docs and save us shipping *pounds* of books for gaming.

The Kindle (3G) served as a point of contact for the internet when our DSL went down and our wifi was useless (only the Kindle Keyboard will do this, which is why I don't have a Touch).

But the iPad has an app for writing sheet music and playing it back to be sure you've got it right. And is much more responsive for web surfing when the wifi is working, which is most of the time.

I love them both.

The bigger screen is a given, but that also adds weight and diminished portability, so I see that as tie depending on your preference.

What else is a big differentiation?
Well, I use my iPad primarily for business. I can now take it in business trips instead of a laptop - much lighter and consumes far less power. It is suitable for creating/editing documents, running presentations, organising and scheduling appointments/finances, as well as the obvious such as email and video conferencing. In short - almost anything I could do on my Mac.

Its also great for watching video and playing games on long journeys. I love reading, but I need more than just books...

App selection on Apple's App Store for tablet optimised apps is simply much stronger than Android's at the moment. It is much closer amongst phone apps but there just aren't as many great apps for Android that take advantage of the extra screen real estate of a tablet. If you're the kind of person who uses the tablet for more than a few functions then this becomes quite a big differentiator.

Because in this episode of Steampunk Little House on the Prairie, Laura, Mary, and Carrie each want their own? Papa has to work at the mill extra hours, but it's worth it.

In short, who would want to share their Kindle? 1 per person, minimum.

Out of all the toys I have, the most frequently used are Kindle Fire and Kindle 3, then Xoom, then Kindle DX. iPad "belongs" to the kids.

Yeah, it would be pretty cool. It would bump up Oleson Mercantile to the next level. Have you read Alison Arngrim's autobiography?

What I discovered from her book, and Melissa Gilbert's book, is that they adored each other -- it was "Mary" who was allegedly a piece of work.

Anyhow, I see the Olesons as having iPads, and thinking they're better than the Ingalls who have the WiFi only Kindles -- with Special Offers.
