Any one else have a Vox that won't go to sleep in the Kobo app, but will in others?
So I've noticed a funny thing with my Vox: I have it set to go to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity. The other day I was reading a book in the Kobo app, and put it down for a moment but didn't get back to it until about an hour later. Imagine my surprise when I saw it was still on, displaying the page of the book I left it at!
I double checked my settings and it was indeed set to sleep after 5 minutes, so I did some testing and found that in pretty much any app, it will indeed go to sleep after 5 minutes. But if I leave it open in a book in the kobo app, it stays awake! Anyone else noticed this? |

Yep. It's so that it doesn't go to sleep while you're reading. That'd be very annoying.

Actually it never goes to sleep while in the book. My mom forgot to put it to sleep and it'd been on for four hours before I heard the sound of low battery and realized she left it on.

Yep, it Kobo has programmed it so the Vox never sleeps while in the reading app. Hopefully an item that will be included on the change list with the next firmware update.

Hmmm, OK, thanks. It IS pretty annoying, seeing as how that's kind of counter-intuitive. It's exactly when I AM reading that I'm most likely to rely on the auto-sleep feature.
Think about it: If I'm reading and I get interrupted for what I think will be just a moment, I'm not going to exit the book. If the interruption turns out to be longer than expected, that is exactly when I would count on the auto-sleep feature to activate itself. On the other hand, if I KNOW the interruption will be longer and I therefore take the time to purposely exit the book, then I am obviously more likely to also immediately turn the vox off or put it into sleep mode myself, right then and there, rather than waste another few precious minutes of battery life waiting for the auto-sleep feature to activate itself. As for not wanting it to turn itself off while I am reading, I (and most users, I'm sure) already took that into consideration when I set my auto-sleep period. I chose 5 minutes, but if I needed longer I would just select a longer period. I thought that was why they gave us that option. ![]() But it is good to know this is an intended "feature" and not technically a bug. ![]() Last edited by lorken; 02-15-2012 at 04:51 PM. |

Whenever I need to walk away I just tap the top button, not exit out of the book. This puts it to sleep. I wake it up, unlock the screen and it's still in the book.
For a moment or more a quick few seconds of unlocking doesn't add that much more hassle if you were away for a minute or two or more. Unless you have the sleep of death issue, I'd just say tap the top button and when it unlocks you'll still be in the book. |

Hi everyone,
The screen not sleeping while in the reader is a software problem that has been fixed for the February software release. We apologize for not catching this problem sooner. In addition to fixing this bug, you'll find some new features in the next update that I'm sure you're going to like. We'll be posting a message here on MR as well as our website once the software update is available for you to download to your Vox. Thanks for your patience, Jason |
