Ah, I think I understand things now. If I see a series that i would like to read, such as the Honor Haringtion series, I would purchase the last book in the series, in this instance thats the Mission of Honor volume, there will be a next volume shortly, then I would download the image file and extract it to a folder and there would be all of the books in the series. I am not woried about download speed however I would rather not burn the image to CD and would rather extract it to a network drive, I have gobs of storage space on the network so thats no real big deal. When I get the image I will need an unziping software such as 7 zip to unzip the image. Once done I wil see a lot of books in that folder that will include all of the honor harringtion novels. I have read all of the Honor Harringtion books published so far but I might be interested in this in the future if there is a image file available for the series.

I would recommend just browsing to the books you want on fifthimperium, rather than downloading the CD images or zips. In those hundred of megabytes of CD are maybe 10mb that you'll actually use.
The CDs contain an HTML index that you browse through like a web site, which contains links to the individual ebooks. Or you could search the CD for .epub or .prc or whatever. It's been a while since they did any new CDs. They might have given up on the idea. The older CDs also don't appear to contain epubs, I noticed after I got my kobo. |

Now on for the mechanics of the job, do I need an unziping software to unzip the image file? Do I execute the .iso file in order to extract the files? I guess I would load the HTML index in my web browser.I am not concerned about hte download speed, my home network is excellent and I am nto worried about drive space - I have gobs of that.

An ISO file is a CD-ROM image. You need a program which will mount it as a virtual drive on your PC. There's a free open source program available for Windows at:

Actually 7-zip is capable of extracting files out of an ISO image, if you are more comfortable with that paradigm than you are mounting a ISO image as a virtual CD-drive (with software like HarryT suggested). More than one way to skin this cat!

Nah, I think I will mount the image. I also see that baen has a list on their web page for books with CDs in them and I see a few of the ones that I have in there already. I wish that I knew about the iso when I started out reading the harringtion series, would have been cheaper and easier then buying the book insidividual as I did. I will keep the fifth imperium in my list of favorites for future reference. Will baen revise the iso to include the new Honor Harringtion novel that was recently published in its entirety?

WinRAR opens ISO files as if they were ZIP files. (CD, DVD, and BD ISO files.) Zips are generally smaller but if the ISO is all you have to work with it's no biggie. |

There is also an excellent, FREE tool for CD/DVD ISO images that lets you mount them directly called Virtual CloneDrive. I highly recommend it, and it's completely free with no nags or nuisance. Install it, and it creates a virtual DVD drive on your Windows PC and you can use that DVD drive to mount ISO images just exactly as if they were CDs or DVDs mounted in a physical drive.

Had I known about the iso it would have saved me a lot of time and dollars as well. I thought, at the time, that each volume needed to be purchased seperately. Now I find that all I needed to do is to purchase the lasted volume and that would have given me copies of the ones before that. At the moment I am attempting to read all of the books that I got in the January 2012 bundle and I look forward to the February bundle, which I will purchase as soon as I get a bit more through the January bundle. I have examined the February bundle and I have found that its mostly comprised of dead authors, which is not necessarily bad its just that one can not expect the author to publish any further books, unless modern science has found away for authors to publish from beyond the grave. This is probably worth a Sci-Fi book itself. In my humble opinion I general prefer to read books buy living authors since I can anticipate further books from them and I like the anticipation of the next book in the series.
I wonder what David Weber is working on now? Has he ever said what he is working on? What am I allowed to know what he is working on? Someone somewhare told me that he is working on a second volume to come after A Beautiful Friendship. I wonder how long he is going to go on with the Honor Harringtion novels, there is a little more room to move her up the Manticorian Naval chain of command? If memory serves me right of the books her supervisor is fifth space lord and the chain of command tops out with the first space lord who is also CNO -Chief of Naval Operations. What I would love to see is a book on the environment in which Honor Haringtion exists, there was another series which had a book on the environment in which the series characters exist and it what excellent. Some of the topics might include: descriptions of some of the characters, a chart of the Manticorian Naval chain of command and perhaps a drawing from fans of Honor and a few of the others. |

www.davidweber.net The new Honor Harrington is coming out in March and I know he is working on the next Safehold book. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sequel to A Beautiful Friendship. War Maid's Choice also just recently came out. At one point in the Honor Harrington series, near War of Honor: Spoiler:

I know about the recent publication of a new honor haringtion novel, need to strap myself down from purchasing the bundle with it too soon. I need to read a few of the books that I have on my kindle right now before I add anything further. I have seen War Maid's Choice in a forthcoming bundle. Which series is war maids choice a part of? Sometimes I wonder how a writer like David Weber can keep up such a furious writing pace. Seems a tad super human to me.
