Succumbed to the desire/need for instant gratification. Bought the new Dana Stabenow book. OTOH, it's a favourite author, latest in the Kate Shugak series, and has been on my wishlist for ages. So not really a slip, but I need to keep it at the "one-off" level.

So, query for the collective conscience here. I share a Kindle account with my wife, and our book tastes have some overlap, maybe 25%? IAC, I had a book on my wish list, the new Deborah Crombie. I was being patient, and didn't plan to buy it right away, but my wife ordered. So now my TBR went up, and my book costs went up, but it's not really my fault...

Books that you don't buy for yourself don't count, any more than upthread it was decided that gift card purchases do since it's not your money and you can use it however you like.

Consider it a fortuitous freebie and feel no guilt. You didn't buy it* and yet you will still benefit.

* This is assuming that you and your wife have worked out a "who pays for what" sort of agreement for how the actual money for the household book buys are handled. But even if the payment technically comes out of your discretionary spending funds, you still didn't push the purchase button.

It's all one spending account, so I can't really call it a freebie. OTOH, it's not my _fault_, and I didn't fall off the wagon, so that's the definite plus side. But it did raise my TBR, and that's not really a good thing, and tends to push further away when I can feel comfortable buying some new things. Plus I just downloaded the March Webscription, so that's at least 2 more books onto my TBR. True, I bought them months ago, and I'm not going to charge myself for all 6 books, since I'm unlikely to read more than a couple of them unless I get lots of free time. But it's still a bump in the TBR. Which hardly needs to get any larger!

It's all HarryT's fault! Just bought R. F. Delderfield's To Serve Them All My Days. My only consolation is that it's a reread from 30 years ago, a wonderful book, and was only $7.99, well within my price band.

Well, my ratio is over 2 again, but mainly because I've removed the remaining Piers Anthony ebooks from my TBR list. I've got more sensitive about his sympathetic depiction of pedophiles.

I'd noticed one or two people commenting on it over the past year, and then the first chapters of volume one of Bio of a Space Tyrant were too much.

I have cut my CC bill down to a quarter of it used to be. This month, is a bit of a lapse, but that is because I have a Kickstarter pledge. Otherwise it would have been at the same level.
I think it is a combination of disabling the credit card and being burned out on reading, esp. Urban Fantasy

Thanks for the warning. That makes it easy to make a decision about reading those books, and I'll just pass.

Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club for $0.25
Ransom Rigg's Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children for $3.99

Rigg's was on my wish list. Palahniuk's wasn't on the radar, but a book from a movie I loved for a quarter was impossible to ignore. Brings my total spent this year on books to $46.26.
