To Dubrovnik, Croatia. It's my second home town.
I've been there a couple years ago. As a matter of fact, I was surprised with my trip to Croatia. It's a beautiful country.

I was going to recommend a zip loc back of some sort as well, but was hoping someone had a specific (form-fitting) size suggestion, though I'll grant that the idea of one large enough to hold some air for bouyancy is a very good idea.

Just take the reader, and watch out for high tide. You can always put it down and enjoy the view for awhile--like when the ladies go walking by!

Oh... and don't try that stunt on the Corona commercials, where they use their electronic devices as beer coasters. I have it on reliable authority that it's not real good for electronics...

If someone was playing ball or running too close by, I'd just put away my reader. Also, I don't have to worry about greasy hands. We get the spray on sun screen. So I get my wife to spray me.

I once wanted to read on my phone while taking a bath by putting the phone in a ziplock bag. My wife told me I wasn't allowed to do that
Since she gave me the phone for my birthday, I complied.

They make big ziplock bags! I'd probably use one of those.

Steve: there are non-CFC sprays, where you do the spraying manually.
Unfortunately, those are not as clean as they sound. Your finger ends up pretty greasy after all that pumping action. But it doesn't ruin the environment.

I know, I know! But for some reason, when I go looking for those in the stores, the CFC sprays are all I can find. I don't know if the non-CFCs are being bought up, or if the stores aren't stocking them, but I can never find them! (Or, if I do, it's SPF 2.5 or less, pretty much only good for protecting you if you're already 10 feet underground...)

I thought that there was a global ban on using CFCs in spray cans. All the ones sold in the UK have used hydrocarbon propellants for years, not CFCs (that's why they always say "highly flammable" on them).

You actually don't need air remaining in the bag: as long as the bag prevents water to enter the device, it will float in water (all current devices have a weight/volume ratio of less than 1 g/cc).

I honestly don't know whether it is an all-encompassing "ban," as opposed to a recommendation that most countries follow... but my concern is that the CFC "replacements" are just polluting the atmosphere in other ways. Butane, propane, etc, may not do ozone damage, but they are still global warming gases.

Fear not, Steve. Once the one or two teratons of methane that's currently locked in the permafrost in Siberian and in the oceans gets released, it'll all be over pretty quick.

Alex--

I, surprisingly, second Taylor's sagacious advise:

Beaches are for seeking shells, enjoying cocktails, and generally running amok. Moks and reading do not mix well.

As for the plastic sealable bag, I would be worried about condensation forming inside from intense temperature differences. Though maybe the beaches where you are heading are not 90 degrees F+, like here in South Cackalacki.

Take a cooler & a frisbee, not books.

Have fun, by the way.
