Finished reading The Tattooed Girl: The Enigma of Stieg Larsson and the Secrets Behind the Most Compelling Thrillers of Our Time by Dan Burstein, et al. I admit, I skimmed over vast portions of this, but there were some interesting nuggets mixed in that made me finish the read. Overall? Probably a 3 out of 5. But just barely. Way too much dross for the few flecks of gold in it. On the other hand, we had just finished watching the Extended Edition of the Swedish version of the Millenium Trilogy, which made me want a bit more, though I don't think I'm in a position to start rereading it yet. (Afraid I'll lose a few days of work as I get totally engrossed again.)

The movies, by the way, are FAR superior to the shortened versions that were shown in the US. Each about 3 hours long, instead of roughly two hours long, they remind me, yet again, of what a great character Lisbeth Salander is.

Next up: Bruno, Chief of Police by Martin Walker. I got a pointer to this from Dana Stabenow's site, and I'm roughly 40% into it already, and liking it.

An average issue, helped by the serial which I'm still enjoying.

Another from the backlist issues I bought a while back in a big Fictionwise sale.
A good issue. I liked "The Legend of the Whiney Man" and "The Gist Hunter"

Currently: First Contacts by various authors.

A collection of first contact short stories. I thought that this might be a collection of stories whose copyright has expired in the US, but it seems not.

Boy, concerning Lisbeth Salander, that's a !!

Don't forget the fantastic actress who portrayed Lisbeth Salander, Noomi Rapace, who has since appeared in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and soon will be featured in Ridley Scott's prequel to Alien, Prometheus!

Morse is described as a "lightly-built, dark-haired man" and is several years younger than Sergeant Lewis. He drives a Lancia - this transformed into the familiar Mk 2 Jaguar in the books written after the TV series became popular!

I can't recommend this highly enough. It's a truly excellent book. It's a pity that Colin Dexter wrote so few books compared to many of his fellow crime-writers; there are 13 Morse novels, plus a collection of short stories. All very well worth reading.
Not available on Amazon US. Fortunately, my library has a paper copy.

The actual story is excellent, concerning the murder of a girl found dead in a pub carpark. The story is well-told; the resolution has a "sting in the tail" which took me by surprise.

My only exposure to the Inspector Morse books is from the wonderful series of TV adaptions. From your description I would love to read the books. Unfortunately it seems that some of the ebooks are available for purchase in the US, while some are not. It appears Last Bus to Woodstock is not.

It's going to be hard to see Ms. Rapace as anyone else. She totally owned the Salander part.

Just Finished:

- The House of Silk: The New Sherlock Holmes Novel by Anthony Horowitz

An excellent Holmes story, I thought. Horowitz captured the feel of Conan Doyle's stories and characters, and until it was revealed I had no idea what the House of Silk could be.

Currently reading:

- A Study in Sherlock by Laurie R. King, et al (16%)

- A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin (31%) [on hold]

- A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin (20%) [on hold]

Since I got a Sony PRS-t1 for Christmas I read the Hunger Games trilogy, The Lovely Bones (I wanted to read this book for so many years, but never did) and The Girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy, most of them borrowed from the public library. Soooo awesome how easy that goes with the Sony. Haven't been in the library for years. I just started James Pattersons' "Double Cross" but after the Stieg Larsson series the book its not what keeps me going. Am going to see here what everyone's reading to get an idea. How is Stephen Kings 11/22/63? Good?

Started reading the third: "The Kingdom of Gods" and last book in the Inheritance Trilogy by N.K Jemisin.

Can't say I remember much of the plot from book 2 but I didn't feel like re-reading the previous book. So far it seems to be an interesting read.

Note to self. Don't start reading series before every book is out.

just got into "Divergent" by veronica roth.

so far this has me just as captivated as the hunger games did.

i went into it thinking it would be another quickly written hunger game-ish derivative, though i am VERY pleasantly surprised at its originality.

hopefully this trilogy can hold up over the long haul.
