personally i'm excited by amazon's publishing venture. there are a couple titles i'm interested in and i'm eager to own Evan Currie's Odyssey One in physical form (its a great space opera). i have no problem getting these titles strictly from amazon.

the idea of exclusivity is somewhat of a new concept to the general public. as a gamer for these past 25 years i'm well versed on exclusivity. in more general terms millions of folks didn't seem to have a problem with only getting iphones through at&t for several years. *shrug* i don't know why people are angry at amazon, they're perfectly willing to sell their books to you through b&n but b&n is the one having a hissy fit and keeping books out of your hands. amazon hasn't stopped selling the nook, have they? amazon is signing authors and whatnot to increase the value of their brand, b&n isn't doing much besides displeasing customers. they need to do less worrying about amazon and more about increasing the value of their stores. i've always thought b&n stunk and they've done exactly squat to make me want to shop at their stores. all drama does is drive customers away. |

Amazon wants B&N to give up retail space for its print books. B&N rightly is saying no, the retail space in their b&m stores is too valuable. Better to put another publisher's books in that space. Your argument that Amazon isn't refusing to sell the Nook is questionable. Is it Amazon that is doing the selling or one of the marketplace vendors? |

As rhadin pointed out, Amazon refused to sell the ebook version through B&N. You are also missing the fact that that B&N still sell those books through the online store.

We need to add Walgreens, Rite Aid, and CVS too. And that is not even counting the "How to do" books at Lowes and Home Depot. Heck there is a book store on every corner. |

I'm getting to the point where I'm saying [mods: expletive deleted], too. My husband is appreciating the fact that I've purchased about 10-12 books and spent less than $20. Last edited by pdurrant; 02-06-2012 at 06:20 PM. |

I have bought very few books of late. I am catching up on my backlog and reading what my Mom is buying for her book clud. Admitidly (sp) I am paying for those books so technically I am buying them but I am not chosing them.

You can get books at the drug store or at the grocery store, but they seldom have anything that would interest me in the slightest.

Just read today that Amazon will be opening their first brick and mortar store soon.

All you Seattle peeps will get the first look...I'm jealous! Amazon is one of my favorite e-tailers...so wish I could say the same for B&N. |

I wonder if Amazon can make Brick and Mortar work. Some of Amazon's biggest fans think B&M is a bad idea, but I think that is because they are big fans or ordering online and getting books via the internet.

But there are a lot of people who really like the bookstore. I think that walking down the aisles and picking up books and looking at them is a superior way to browse books. There are those who will go into a B&M bookstore, browse their books but then buy them on the Kindle. I would feel too uncomfortable doing that. Now, if I was in an Amazon store, I would feel comfortable browsing paper books there, but buying on the Kindle. B&M would expand Amazon's appeal, and undermine Barnes and Noble. Amazon would have to avoid the pitfall of becoming a big box dinosaur. |

I can see Amazon stores in states where they already have a physical presence and pay state sales tax. I cannot see Amazon stores in other states unless a change is made and all internet stores are required to pay sales tax.
