Later edit: Nevermind, I just got it. It is now charging, I will start it later ![]() Last edited by catharsis; 02-02-2012 at 04:13 AM. |

I'm really sorry if this has been asked / answered before (I know asking without checking back is just plain rude). How well does the M92 handle largish PDF's?
I'm thinking somewhere between A4 and A5, not pure text - a textbook, for example, some text, some pictures, some graphs et cetera. |

Thanks you both - looks like it's still tablet time for now. Pity, I just prefer reading off eink. Maybe one day...

what exactly dissapointed you? We seem to all agree that readability is OK with PDFs. Out main complains regard the exporting for annotations

The M series with margin cropping are actualy the best ereaders to read largish PDFs at the moment and it's as usuable as it can get, unless someone has bad eyesight and needs additional zooming. There's the issue with annotations and fluidity, ie. quick jumping between saved pages, liek PB offers, but for straight reading it's as good as it will get, at least in the nearest future.

The only real advantage od PB is, you can open more documents and switch betweeen them. |

![]() And: I am testing currently an alpha version of the firmware for the PB 912: there is a new cropping feature for PDFs that is working marvelessly and - I think - it is as good if not more precisely to use than the M92 one (both usable via keys and stylus) ![]() |

![]() Thus PB9X would not fit for some kind of user (students, scientist ... and so on) IMHO Last edited by Booxtor; 02-08-2012 at 10:02 AM. |

I remember, that PB903 was almost unusable (for my needs) a year ago. I was about to buy it and was very frustrated that there is not possible to make freehand scribles in pdf texts, which is the main feature I needed. It took about one year to implement it... PB and Onyx are the only real competitors in 10" eink readers field (I do not consider Kindle DX by far equal to PB or Onyx). Both are good, each of them better in some respect and worse in another. So the choice between them depends mostly on user preferences and needs (and faith that missing features will come one day). Let us hope, they will survive and we will compete to make their products as good as possible. |

Now the Ectaco Jetbook Color is on the market - also with some/many flaws. So far the customer has to be disappointed unless he/she has almost no expectations. It seems to be more rational not to hope that these companies survive, but that a major player enters the field who is capable not just to implement improvements in small steps - but to overhaul the software completely. The software simply is only very basic on both devices and for a scientific workflow almost unusable. I use a M92 parallel with a tablet. Und noticing what would be possible on the software side simply hurts. There is no way that PB and Onyx with their limited resources can develop something decent within time. Wrong OS - plain and simple. Interesting if Ectaco with Window CE(!!!) can pull it off ... |
