Bypassing Registration on Rooted Edge???
I have an edge dualbook. I followed the advice by "obsessed2" from thread titled "resources for new edge and pocket edge users". I used it to upgrade the android program. Now today, trying to download google books for the left side of the edge. Can't get them to do so, it insists I register device...
...Tried the method suggested often about hitting each side of LCD side clockwise, but that does nothing.... ...also tried advice from obsessed on connecting my device to the computer as discussed in above thread. Didn't work either.... any advice would be helpful kathleenjohnson3141@gmail.com.... Thank you... |

Glad to hear you got your eDGe updated to the latest version of Android. This is different than rooting. You need to register your EDGe with Adobe. Did you download and install Adobe Digital Editions to your PC and setup an Adobe account? This authorizes Adobe Digital Editions to your PC. Once this is done, use the USB cable to connect your eDGe to the PC with Adobe Digital Editions program open, and Turn On or Mount the eDGe. Adobe Digital Editions should recognize the eDGe and offer to authorize it with your Adobe ID. Once your eDGe is registered with Adobe you will be able to transfer Google books to it using Adobe Digital Editions and read it on the e-ink. Take another look at the directions under Digital Rights Management section of my Resource Sticky to make sure you didn't miss a step. Also, check this out: http://support.google.com/books/bin/...&answer=179863 Once you figure out how to transfer your Google books, head on down to the Books section of my Resource Sticky for many additional reading resources. Thank's for reading and offering to help....
....I did the advice posted below my original question. I then had the digital rights management from adobe download on my edge which was attached to the computer. I then tried to download the google ebooks onto the edge and add into my library.... THe same error read which stated i needed to register my edge..... So I'm hoping, I don't have to root my edge back to its original 1.6 android to fix the problem, and then re-root it to 2.2. IS this what needs to be done??? (((Just as an FYI, I'm no techno genius. I have one rooted nook color, but know nothing about this particular tablet)))) Thank's in advance for the assistance.... |

Ignoring Google books for a moment, have you tried to download other books - for example from project Gutenberg http://www.gutenberg.org/ to see if you can do that and load and display them on the reader screen. If you can do that then you need to register with Adobe as outlined by obsessed2 above. If you can't download and display the project gutenberg books, either directly to your edge or via a PC and usb cable, then you have other problems that must be solved first. |

After looking around the Internet this looks like it is definitely a Digital Rights Management (DRM) issue.
Some questions, please answer each one individually: 1. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your PC. Click on Library and then click Authorize Computer. Do you receive a message saying "This computer has been authorized to: your_name@your_email (e.g. oldguy@yahoo.com)? 2. Try to remember, the first time you plugged the eDGe into your computer with Adobe Digital Editions open, did Adobe Digital Editions offer to Authorize your Device? 3. On the eDGe, select Settings --> About eDGe --> Legal information --> Other Licenses. Is there anything here? 4. On the eDGe, open the Library App and using the Library pulldown menu select Storage. Under storage select Internal Storage. Is there a folder called Digital Editions? 5. In Adobe Digital Editions there should be a pre-loaded book that came with it. Try moving this book to the eDGe and once done, open the Library App and browse to the Digital Editions folder and try opening it on the reader. Does it open on the e-reader? You may have to contact Adobe and have them reset your account authorizations. See this link (look at posts # 13 - # 15): http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...=119056&page=2 While this was for a different reader, the error is the same and should be able to be fixed the same way. Thank's Ivanjt & Obsessed2 for your advice....
Regarding Ivanjt, I can and do have Gutenberg books on my edge. The hitting the corners of the edge didn't work, so I think you're right that its an adobe, digital rights management issue.... To Obsessed2, I just got your advice, and wanted to thank you well in advance for the time you took to research my issue. I have to take time to look into the questions, and later today will provide the answers. Am forcing myself to focus on homework, and have blocked out some time this evening after dinner to look into your advice. WIll respond then. THanks.... |

Followed obsessed2's instructions....
OMG! I figured it out.......
In reality the fact of the matter is that I am a technological dumby.... ....THere is actually nothing wrong with the device.... I did do everything all as expected, and it turned out just exactly as its supposed to..... My problem was in knowing where to find the books downloaded through the adboe digital rights management program: FIRST GO TO THE DEVICE STORAGE ICON CLICK ON DIGITAL STORAGE AND THEN DIGITAL EDITIONS Those are your books from google books. Sorry to waste your time, and thank's very much ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It's never a waste of time helping someone. I'm happy you figured it out. Don't forget to add each book to your Library so you won't have to go back to the Digital Editions folder every time. You can do this one of two ways: With the book open on the e-reader, press the small book icon with the plus sign on the e-reader, or when selecting the book from the LCD press and hold the book until the popup menu appears and then select Add to Library.
As you start to use your eDGe more questions will arise. If you have a question or need any additional help don't hesitate to ask. You will find that the eDGe community on Mobileread is very helpful and always happy to assist. Last edited by obsessed2; 02-10-2012 at 09:59 AM. |

Hey Obs,
if I'm not wrong it's the third time I read about people believing that Ermine = rooting. Maybe you could add to your great sticky, below "READ AND HEED:" "upgrading is not rooting" |
