An interesting few days. Going down to London there was a sharp noise from the front of the car. In London, it started making very nasty noises. A garage visit the next day confirmed that it was a broken leaf spring, and I had to extend my stay by a day to get it fixed, not to mention the cost of the repair.

And then I found that a set of taps that I'd ordered had arrived, but was the wrong set. Luckily their mistake, not mine, but I was a bit concerned for a while that I could have made such a silly mistake in ordering.

And then I realised that I'd neglected to properly consider the height at which something should be installed. And I only realised after it had been installed. So that it'll need taking out and re-fixing at the proper height.

Sigh. Let's hope next week goes better.

Still, and all... I've often dreamed of having a large "Ram's Head" mounted on the front of my bike... with a big guy beating oar stroke time on the drum and shouting "Ramming Speed!!!!"

Cowardice limits me to giving them the finger instead.

I don't think that's cowardice. It is simply a healthy sense of self preservation.

The back of my car is all rammed in because I stop at stop signs. In this case I stopped at the same stop sign twice and got rammed again for a second time. The first time they wrote the car off because it would cost more to straigten than the 1998 Hyundai is worth. The second time it happened I was hoping the car might get written off for a second time when the girl who just rammed me started crying (with tears) Mark, Mark, I'm soooo sorry.
It was a lovely girl I knew from work who said she couldn't go through insurance because the excess was about four thousand dollars. I said "Don't worry about it". The car was only two inches shorter than the night before and about four from brand new, but I was the most wonderful understanding bloke she had ever met.

ummmm I would go through Insurance. That is what it is there for and you have no idea what troubles you might have down the line. It is nice to be nice but the bill to fix your car should be picked up by her or her insurance.

The cover fits tightly around the Touch, and tapping the glass rather than pressing plastic buttons may work better for you. The Wi-Fi Touch is $99, and the 3G Touch is $149. If you want ad-free models, tack $40 onto those prices. The leather case with the built in light that runs off the Kindle's battery is $39.99. And, of course, with the 3G Kindle, you can buy books anywhere and see them appear on your Home Screen in less than a minute.

Just a thought.
Thanks, WT. Unfortunately leather is even worse than plastic for me. I borrowed a Kindle prior to buying my Pocketbook and without a case it was out of the question, as the rubbarized backing was even worse than hard plastic (caused me breathing problems).

I'm now feeling more rational and am off to start that thread. It's got to all figure out eventually, right?

I agree with Prof that this would be the most prudent route, but we blokes are such push-overs... Karma to you .

It was her choice to go for cheaper car insurance with a $4,000 excess. If she can't afford a $4,000 excess, she shouldn't have that policy.

But I suspect her real problem is that a claim would greatly increase her car insurance premiums at the next renewal.

So if you were being very generous, you could get her to settle your repair bill without involving the insurance companies in terms of making a claim.

But you really ought to report the accident to your insurance company, or you might find yourself left in the lurch one day if your insurance company claims that you concealed material facts.
