Questions about Pulse

I recently started exploring the Pulse feature for the first time and am quite impressed. It's a clever feature with a lot of potential. However, one thing that has me a little confused is that fact that when I open the Pulse display for certain books, I am listed as one of the current readers - and yet in others I am told that no one is currently reading that book, even though, obviously, I am! Anyone got an explanation for that? Is it a bug, a temporary server glitch or something else?
Also, is the Pulse feature specific to certain books, or universally available (on Kobo-bought books)? I notice the Pulse icon is greyed out in some titles and wasn't sure of the significance of that.

Noticed the same thing in some of them.

The only thing I can think of is that if others are reading the book it shows you as reading it, if you are the only one reading the book it says no one is reading it (does possibly sound like a bug)

Not experienced it greyed out (I am on the Vox though), from what I have seen it is available on all books got from kobo (free or paid)

That does sound logical. I suspect it is a bug. I am (mainly) on a Vox as well, although I do have the iOS too.
I also had the impression that Pulse was available on all store-bought books, but then I noticed that some titles are specifically listed as "books with Pulse" on the introductory book-pushing page when you launch the iOS app....I don't know how much significance that has.

You're right – reporting that nobody is reading though you are is a bug that will be corrected in a future update.

As for "Books with Pulse" – it's a list of books that have the highest Pulse (the most activity). The actual Pulse features are in fact available for all books downloaded from the Kobo store (at least on iOS).

Thank you for the information, lessthanyouthink. I am pleased to hear that the Kobo team is on top of this bug. Another thing I've noticed is that the intensity of the Pulse icon varies from chapter to chapter within the same book. What does that signify?

the darker/bigger the pulse icon, the more activity on that chapter of the book from other people

That makes sense I am still something of a Pulse newbie as you may have gathered. It is clever that the display is specific to chapters and not the whole book....

haven't used it much recently (backlog of non kobo books)

when I was reading a christmas carol just before christmas, this had quite a bit of activity going on, was impressed by how the pulse system works

Well, I opened the Pulse section on a new book this morning only to be told that no one was currently reading it, so clearly this bug has not yet been fixed. Grr

Hi - delighted to hear it's been fixed on iOS. But what the Vox, where I first noticed this glitch and encountered it again this week?
(Yes, I am enough of a Kobo fan to have both a Vox and the iOS apps..call me a chump if you like )

But you work for the same company as the Vox team, surely? Could you not nudge one of your estimable colleagues into at least an estimate of when this 'nobody's reading' bug might be fixed on the Vox too? Pulse is a headline feature of the Vox and yet this - in my opinion anyway - pretty glaring issue has already survived several software updates. In other news, the recently introduced Facebook timeline feature on the Vox is also glitchy.
Meanwhile, while we await Apple's approval of the new iOS app, I wondered whether you - or Sharkus perhaps - had any thoughts on this?
