I never tought it would happen to me but it did...
Reading in bed can be deadly... I inadvertently put my hand on my open Cybook while getting out of bed and broke the screen... I was a bit apprehensive because of all the horror stories I read about customer support, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the service that Bookeen offered me. I used a Yahoo mail address to contact them and their response, considering the 6 hours time zone difference was very prompt and cordial. I sent back my Cybook to Paris, (My wife wanted to hand delivered it, but I put a stop to that) and I got an email from Bookeen at the same time that I got a notification from my shipper that the Cybook had been delivered. I just paid the 120,60 Euros and now I am anxiously waiting for my Cybook... I will never read in bed again... Overall a costly but very positive experience with Bookeen! And I can attest that I am an average Joe, with no close ties to Bookeen. I am not a Guru!!! Thanks to the support team at Bookeen!!! Regards, Georges |

Did you not have the machine in its case? That provides a lot more "protection" than using it without.

Yes Harry, I had the machine in its case, but I fell asleep and it stayed open... When I woke up and got out of bed, that is when I put my hand on the cybook...
I guess Bookeen will have to work on a self closing cover... Regards, Georges |

Just another question Harry!
I guess that my experience was fairly typical, but let's assume that for any reason my Cybook would have been beyond repairs. In that case I would immediatly have ordered a new one. Now comes the question of PID. Is it possible to order one with the old PID ? Or if I remove that PID at Books on Board or Fictionwise, do I regain my 4 possible PID or is my total number is decreased by one forever ??? If in 2 years time Bookeen comes up with the Gen4, it is another PID gone ??? Without going illegal, how will we be able to keep our book collection from disappearing ??? The same problem I guess can happen if you change computer and you have to download Mobipocket reader again... Has this issue been addressed ??? Thanks, Georges |

Ouch - that must have been a nasty moment for you. I sympathise
![]() The new machine will have a new PID. Simply replace your old PID with the new one at Fictionwise and redownload your books - you can have a maximum of 4 PIDs at any one time, but you seem to be able to change them pretty much as often as you wish. |

Thanks Harry!!!
That is a bit of good news about the PIDs!!! It will allow me and others to stay legal longer!!! I have invested quite a bit in my mobipocket book collection, and I would hate to loose it!! I do not plan to buy paper books anymore if possible. Being a ship's captain with satellite internet access makes the Cybook the perfect choice for somebody that likes to read and cannot get to a book store easily... I hope that more mainstream authors will join the community. I am thinking among others of john Grisham who to my knowledge does not have any ebooks available. Regards, Georges P.S.: Waiting for my Cybook to return from Paris, makes me wish for a Mac version of Mobipocket reader... |

I hate to jinx myself, but so far, I haven't had any problems at all. I am not a heavy user -- just a before-bedtime or lazy Saturday afternoon reader. Got my Cybook in the first NAEB batch, upgraded to the new firmware without a hitch, AND I read in bed without the cover on!

For me, the new firmware improved somethings and worsened others. As said elsewhere I've stuck with the new, as the positives, for me, out-weigh the negative.

Well here are my problems.
1. Terrible pdf support, basically doesn't work for many pdf files. Really should not be advertised as a pdf reader as it blatantly is not. 2. Conversions of pdfs using mobireader are not good. 3. Random rebooting. 4. Random hanging ( requiring hardware reset ) 5. Library view is hopeless and slow, really need a treeview type view. 6. Page turning sometimes "hangs" with green light on, need to turn page again. 7. Corruption of memory card has happened twice and I am very carefull about unmounting drives. 8. Access to storage from OSX is extremely slow. Apart from all this I actually really love the thing, I just really wish it worked better. Are all readers this buggy? Cheers Andy |

Andy,
Are your hangs and reboots while reading PDFs? I've had ZERO such occurances in 8 months usage (other than a dictionary-lookup bug fixed long ago) reading Mobi files. |

Have you got the "clear screen between page turns" (or whatever it's called) option turned off in the settings? I've never seen ghosting like that before on a VizPlex screen!

No, it doesn't happen for me. If I turn off the "flash screen" I get ghosting in all the screen, not just in one side... I would contact Bookeen.

Sigh... I'm not having any of these problems. What I'm noticing in the past few weeks - since 'upgrading' to V1.1 Build 685 - is, increasing in frequency, the Cybook seems to want to NOT cleanly recognize a button push on the front, navigation, control. This *MOST* often happens when I'm in the menu, but it's also happening when I'm pressing the page-forward/page-backward buttons. For example, if I press the down or right controls, I sometimes get a weird page-forward-followed-by-an-immediate-page-back - right back to the page I last finished. And when I'm in the menu, sometimes - even if I am VERY careful to press just the central button (and this most often happens when I'm on the "Back to Library" menu choice) - when I press the button, I get to the Library, but find myself re-entering the ebook I just closed. ![]() This never happened under Build 538. ![]() Derek |

Whoops, you're right, Derek. I forgot -- I've had the weird page forward/page back thing a few times since I loaded the new firmware. Definitely didn't happen with the old build, at least for me. What's freaky is trying to figure out (since there are no page numbers) whether it has gone forward or backward!
