I've been playing Angry Birds every night with the new version that I got from the Market and no flashes.

I posted a new beta. On tablets, it includes a new "compact mode" which takes up less screen space and so you can see some of the text behind if you launch from the status bar. To switch to the new view, press MENU and "Compact view" from the main screen.
The MENU and BACK buttons disappear in compact mode (I can't fix that), so instead you exit by tapping outside the frame (should I have a separate exit button? that would take up more space) and you get the menu (with a "Full screen" option to go back to the original setting) with a "Settings" button. What gave me the idea for a compact view is a new competing dimmer in the Appstore. Also, there've been two 1-star reviews on Amazon from users who say that they just couldn't get ScreenDim working. Maybe they couldn't figure out how to click on "Active"?? Anyway, the new version automatically checks the "Active" box when you first run it. |

Nice! Love the compact view! That makes it really nice to see the level of brightness in an app.

Thanks. Do you think it needs a Close button or is tapping outside it good enough?

Personally, I think tapping outside is intuitive, but others may differ. A lot of Android apps use tap outside. If you have a help button, you might include that explanation. Love it!

Actually, the tap outside doesn't work on all other Android devices. Doesn't work on my Archos 43, for instance. |

I like the compact mode. However, the full screen mode is better for people with fat fingers.
I was thinking whether to make compact mode the default, but I think that might annoy people who are used to the old version. So I think I'll just pop up information about new features when people update. |

I'd like to hear from one more tester before I unleash it on Amazon.

I added a help button in full screen mode (and a help menu option in compact mode). And I made an apk with a 10-day trial in case you get hooked on Compact mode and don't want to go back to the released version.
I think the help includes all the information a Kindle user might want about how to use ScreenDim, but if there are any hints I should include, let me know. You might notice that the help on a Kindle does not mention features that don't work on a (stock) Kindle. |
