well as everybody says, if a deal is too good to be true, it really is.
I had it once with fake sennheisers on ebay. I was lucky and cancelled it before it was shipped. |

As I said - 'were'. As far as I recall, you still can't get the shipping part refunded... and I'd bet this seller was going to charge out the nose for it, then do nothing.

There's a lot of eBay misinformation in this thread. - more than 10 is something eBay puts in automatically when a seller has a multiple quantity of something. They could have 11 or 1010. It'll show 'more than 10'. That's eBay's doing. If you want to see the exact quanity put the item on your watch list then go into My eBay and you'll see the exact number there. It's a glitch but it works to your advantage if you really want to know how many they say they have. - You don't just get your money back when you file a claim with eBay or PayPal. There's much more to it than that. It's not an automatic thing unless eBay notices an account takeover situation but you still have to file a claim. - eBay does get you the shipping costs you paid to have the item sent to you. They always have. Regardless of whatever crap a seller spewed in a listing, you get the full amount you paid back. What you don't get is any shipping costs you had to pay if you have to send an item back to the seller. That's on your dime. - It sounds like it was an account takeover based on what someone said. Only one type of item sold and style of listing then suddenly electronics, different style of listing & payments to China. Sounds like the typical account takeover stuff that's sadly been happening for years. - Paying through PayPal is the safest way to protect your credit card information. The seller however still has your name, address, email address and can send you SPAM emails to try to trick you into account takeovers. Folks, if it seems too good to be true, it is. Don't even waste a second of your time thinking it *might* be real. It's not. Don't click on the Buy Now button. Report the listing and walk away. Some of the folks that perpetrate account takeovers even put malicious code in a listing. Don't mess with it. It's not worth the hassle or aggravation. Report it and move on. |

These types of "businesses" would be less successful and there might be fewer of them if people didn't think they would get something for nothing. Since they had prospects this time, they won't hesitate to try it again.
JMO of course. |

I am duly chastised.
Thank you, Shopaholic for your thoughtful post. It sounds like an account takeover to me, too, now that I know such things exist! ![]() I am surprised that ebay/paypal hasn't contacted me to explain that they negated my order. It just disappeared! The paypal charge never went through to the seller, but I had to go in to my paypal account to cancel it. Meanwhile, we bought a refubished Kindle Keyboard for my husband through Amazon Warehouse. I dragged him to Best Buy to look at the models they had on display (all but the DX). We took his old Kindle to compare, which helped him decide that the Pearl screen was a real upgrade -- he knew he wanted wi-fi, hadn't known he cared about screen quality. ![]() ![]() Thanks to everyone who weighed in on the ebay sale question. I learned a few things. ![]() |

I just can't imagine ordering something anyway when I am sure it isn't a genuine offer. Too many people have a lot of trouble getting their money back from PayPal. If your order didn't go through, count yourself as very fortunate.
Remember all the people buying iPads from a guy out of his car in a parking lot and then opening the box later and gasp!, there wasn't an iPad in the box? |

Or how about the people who bought an iPad on ebay and only received a picture of an iPad? Included somewhere in the very long description was the fact that the auction was for a picture and nothing more.
The only real protection you have for buying electronics on ebay is to carefully check the seller's feedback. Sad to say, but it's better not to buy from a seller without established feedback for selling electronics. |
