actually, pédibus is an oooooold slang word, it just means "on foot" (how can you not love latin slang ?). i think i first saw it in the Nestor Burma books by Léo Malet (classics, absolute classics. i should add them to the "paper books i'd like to see as e-books" list because you can't even find most of them in paper, anymore). (nota bene (since we're getting all latinate here) the word you're thinking of is "conflation" i beleive. it's the one i was thinking of yesterday, except that i couldn't think of it so i used "concatenation" instead, which does work but is not quite as apt. however now that i've used conflation twice in two days i hope to be able to remember it the next time i want it.) |

I walked past a bus the other day, which proudly bore the Latin motto, 'Non sibi, sed omnibus'. ['Not for one, but for all.']

I was wrong. They changed the forecast to 94 for today. It was a muggy 74 at 6:00 when I woke up. I'm going to Scotland. No, Paris - the Metro is so great! We have nothing resembling mass transit around here, just a few city bus lines that don't go anywhere that anyone needs to be. Stay cool, and y'all just enjoy some coolness for me! : Last edited by DixieGal; 06-04-2008 at 10:16 AM. hmph. "stay cool." today i'm wearing socks, long pants and a sweater (preferred wardrobe of choice at this time of year : a summer dress. sandals if i'm going outside. full stop. none of this "sock" nonsense.). i can't leave home without my umbrella. even when it's not raining, the sky is only about 10cm above eye-level, and the color of someone's old sock that fell out of their sack on the way to the laundromat into the gutter, where it was rained on, and then was rolled over by several cars, some of whom parked on it. yesterday there was so much wind that i was nearly carried off like a dandelion seed as i tried desperately not to let go of my umbrella. yeah, i'm cool. i'm cool like "17° and cloudy with frequent showers in the month of june". pfff.

Ummmmm .... noticed what? I notice that your nose is red -- but maybe it has always been red. That's the thing about not being able to look at previous posts to see the previous avatar! But what else are we supposed to notice ..... ?? |

Your avatar seems to be a different cat today, Geoff. Or maybe the same cat but a bit older...?
