Calibre: a single job will only use a single core.
Sometime, Calibre will have multiple jobs (count in the task wheel) that will use multiple cores (if settings allow), but the 1 job within a core rule still applies. BTW Over enthusiastic A/V scaning will eat time

No AV installed. All my interweb traveling and file downloads go into my virtual machine. Just strict routing rules,Ubuntu server (packet/protocol filter firewalls). Unless its from Amazon or something I trust...

How many threads do you allow Calibre to use? The Calibre default settings has it set to 3 with my CPU (i7-860). The longest conversion I've done (relatively simple and well-formed 40-chapter, 5MB XHTML file) took less than 5 minutes so it's hard to imagine 226 ebooks taking more than 24 hours for conversion unless it's a CPU limitation or the books are really, really big. Also, as far as I see, Calibre processes stuff in memory as much as possible.

Have you looked at the job queue to see if all books are slow to convert? Might be just one or two holding things up.

I've done 300+ conversions in about 1 hour on a dual core CPU. you have one or more problem books or some unusual preferences set. e.g. having heuristics set to ON is an example of a setting that greatly slows some conversion. Conversion is a CPU bound process. having said that - I was converting epub to mobi. I am aware that pdf to epub can be much slower, but wiser folks would avoid using PDF altogether & look for alternative source formats Last edited by cybmole; 01-27-2012 at 06:58 AM. |

Not dumb. You are doing one of the nastiest formats to convert from.
With that quad-core, let it grind away on a few at a time. You should shill have a few cycles left for a game of solitaire or 2
