Has anyone who has a "new" CyBook (ie the 512MB model) tried this?

Well, well, well... It's been 24 hours and battery is down to 50%. Bad, bad, bad
Anyone tried with older firmware? I think I'll roll back...

I will roll back. Two days is much to short for how I want to use it and I would never have bought a Cybook with this short battery time.

It would be interesting to now if anybody still have 4-5 days with newer firmware?

I've asked for the old firmware from Bookeen because of the shorter battery life and they replied within half an hour giving me the link to the firmware and this:

Did you use the MP3 player? How long does your battery last now (in average)?

Please note that our team is working on improving the device. We should be able to resolve this issue soon.
So it looks like they are trying to get more informations on the issue. Sending an e-mail to support@bookeen.com with more details could be helpful (of course I already replied).

Well, 37 hours and it's dead

I'm going back to 538. Btw, I asked support for older firmware and they replied within couple of hours. They asked me for serial no and sent mail with a link and big red Confidential stamped on it

I'll test again with old firmware - but not right now. I'm suffering from withdrawal and need an ebook dose right now. Tried to read on my palm and realized it's small and way too bright for my poor eyes...

Why should a change of firmware, and with the screen on one view, cause the battery to dis-charge quicker than before.
Have they made the view more 'active'?

I would GUESS that perhaps they've changed something in the software which is preventing the CPU from entering a low-power "hibernation" state when the machine's idle. That is just a guess, but it would fit the symptoms.

Perhaps that was their solution to missing button presses, they wanted the CPU to be ready immediately to react..

It would not suprise me a bit if it is related to this. If you fail to find the real bug or solve the real problem you can always just try to eliminate the symptoms...

Yes, I have rolled back to 538. Battery life was one of the main reasons I added an e-ink reader to my collection of electronic gadgets, and the Cybook with this firmware isn't cutting it. I could put it back on power each evening to recharge, but I shouldn't have to.

I do hope that Bookeen can get this fixed in the next firmware upgrade.

My test:
After 24h: 70%
After 37h: 40%
After 48h: dead.

I will roll back and report to bookeen. I'm also not that happy with the new button management. In my opinion the reactions were more predictable with 538 (but also slower).

I also rolled back, the difference in battery life is dramatic. If if it was only 20% or so I wouldn't have noticed and I wouldn't care if that improved the Cybook.

There is somthing else that I noticed however. I always worked with the original firmware, version 4xx. I never had any problem with not remembering the page postion in the book. Now I'm working with version 538 and it already happend twice.

Perhaps I should roll back further

I finally managed around 49 hours of actual reading on one full charge.
Now the next question is...
What did/does 538 give- before I decide it worthy of a flash-back?
