I finished Down the Mysterly River by Bill Willingham. It was a very interesting concept for a YA fantasy. I loved the epilogue, too. However, it did feel a little less than fully realized to me. I still reccomend it, though.
I am now on Medicus by Ruth Downie. It is a historical fiction/mystery with a nicely snarky Roman army doctor as the protagonist. It is set in Roman Britain. I had started it in dtbook form, which I had gotten from the used bookstore near me but I am apparently incapable of reading anything not on my phone, so I bought it on my Kindle app and am now speeding along. Its great so far. |

I'm reading The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell for a bookclub. It's not my chosen genre, but the story has hooked me and the writing is well done.

I't been a busy month, and I'm late, but I just finished this month's Club selection, Black Rain by Japanese author Masuji Ibuse (translated by John Bester). A chilling novel about the aftermath of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. A must read, in my opinion.
I also finished a podcast of Doug Allyn reading his short story "Stone Cold Christmas" from the January 2007 issue of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. One of the most wonderful stories I've heard in a long time, and possibly the only podcast I've ever enjoyed so much that felt the need to listen again immediately. |

Well... I got a copy of WWW: Wonder without having to pay for it. So, I am reading that now. I hope it lives up to Tom's hype.

Hi Don, I just ran a search to see if anyone picked up on 'Alien Chicks In Citrus Bras..' and noticed your thread - how are you getting on with it? Barry

Let me speak as a Moderator first (keeping the roles straight): Welcome to MobileRead. Look around the site and join in on any discussions that you might find interesting. You may wish to create your own thread in the Self-Promotions forum for your book, but if you do make sure you read and understand MobileRead's Posting Guidelines. Above all, have fun! ![]() Don (Moderator) ---------------------------------- I'm thoroughly enjoying you novel. I'm not that far into it yet, but I was captured by your sense of humor, which is very wild and enjoyable. You have a wonderful command of language. The humor in your writing reminds me of a mix of Douglas Adams and Tom Robbins, two authors who look at the world in a slightly askew manner, which may be why I find your sense of humor so engaging. Still, I'm only about 20 pages into it, but your book upset my TBR list. (I was reading "The Night Circus," by Erin Morgenstern - which is now on hold - with William Styron's "Lie Down in Darkness scheduled next. Both will now have to wait.)Thank you for your reply. ![]() Don Last edited by Dr. Drib; 01-24-2012 at 10:35 AM. Reason: it |

I found her writing magical! This book contained so much vivid imagery & description, and lyrical descriptions juxtaposed with deeply ironical catastrophes! I highly recommend it!
