Now that's interesting. I just found it was dull - no sense of peril at all, since the heroes had so much power.

Certainly there were bits that were fun, but the overall story wasn't very good, IMO.

Also, I felt that

Spoiler:
the 2,500 year gap in the action wasn't paid enough attention. Apart from using iron sword instead of bronze, and a few trees having been cut down, it seems that the language and everything else stayed remarkably the same.

Note that the bronze age/iron age transition happened only 2,600 years ago in the UK....

Just finished this one. Althought it's still a great read, I must say it's my least favourite of her so far. I'm done with Tess Gerritsen for a while now.

Something amazing has happened:

I started a book I had no intention of reading, but now I'm finding myself loving it. I'm only on location 116 of 6775, so things could change.

The book is "Alien Chicks in Citrus Bras And Stalkers From Beyond The Stars," by Barry Barroldson.

I think his writing is wonderful and the humor is outrageously funny.

The book is FREE. Here's the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Chicks-Citrus-...7236939&sr=1-1

I have been unable to find any information whatsoever about the author. If someone knows him, tell him I'd like to talk to him.

I've now started reading "Endgame Enigma" by James P. Hogan. An "SF Interlude" from my normal mystery reading. I read this many, many years ago, but remember nothing about it other than that I enjoy it. Mr. Hogan is among my favourite "hard SF" authors.

Thank you! I'm going to give it a try.

And for UK readers, it is also free at Amazon UK - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chicks-Citru...7245291&sr=1-1

I made a mistake on the location. It's a nice long book. (6775 locations.)

It's the London "season" - the round of tea-parties, balls, and parties, when debutantes (ie, young ladies from high society) "come out" and formally enter society. But blackmail is in the air, and Inspector Roderick Alleyn enlists the aid of his friend, Lord Robert "Bunchy" Gospell, to aid in tracking down the blackmailer. But, just as he is about to reveal the identity of the blackmailer to Inspector Alleyn, Lord Robert is murdered...

This is an absolutely superb detective story. I've seen it described as one of Ngaio Marsh's best, and I have to agree. All the clues are fairly presented to the reader, but the outcome took me completely by surprise.

VERY highly recommended.
Yes, I "read" this in an Audible version a few years ago while we were working our way though the Ngaio Marsh books in order. Definitely one of her best.

I'm reading Percepliquis, by Michael Sullivan. I've really enjoyed this series, and I hope to see more great work from this author in the future. I really wish that I'd re-read the series just before reading this last book; I'm searching for a thorough summery of the first five on the internet right now. It's not that I don't remember the plot and characters, but there have been a few points that I was hazy on.

Because I have the 4-book bundle but I don't have A Dance with Dragons. I checked it out from the library and read about 220 pages before it had to go back. So now I'm waiting for it again, and in the meantime I'm finishing some other books I've been working on for a while.

Anyway, I'm now starting to read the 2nd novel in the II AM Trilogy, Blood Hunt by Christopher Buecheler.
I finished Blood Hunt and am now anxiously awaiting the 3rd book of the trilogy, The Children of the Sun.

Next I'm reading the 3 short stories on Nyssa's Dresden Files list that are not included in Side jobs. They are Curses, Even Hand, AAAA Wizardry and The Beacon....whoops, that's 4 not 3 and I've actually already read AAAA Wizardry. Also, The Beacon isn't a Dresden Files story, but is written by Shannon Butcher, Jim's wife. Anyway, after these I'll start reading Trio of Sorcery a book containing 3 novellas by Mercedes Lackey.
