Anyone else happy with their Vox

A post in another thread about not many people posting in the Vox forum got me thinking.

Is anyone else happy with their Vox or have you given up on it? I got my Vox for Christmas mainly for use as an ereader and am more than happy with it It works very well for reading on it I have my gMail setup as exchange so I can check emails and my calendar when I want to I also have Overdrive installed so can easily rent library books Great device for me and definitely glad I got it Who else is happy with it? |

I'm happy with mine, which I use mostly for web browsing. I already had a Kobo Touch, and wanted a cheapish 7 in tablet.

I'm quite happy since I got it a couple of months ago for my birthday. I was hoping for a Kobo eReader, so the extra bells and whistles of the Vox were a bonus.

From reading this forum, one would think the Vox was full of bugs, but I bet the complaints posted here are just a tiny proportion of what actual users are experiencing. I have never heard any complaints from any acquaintances that have a Vox. |

I got my Vox for Xmas and I've enjoyed it very much for the last few weeks.

I'm using it for reading, gMail, and Overdrive, same as you, Paul. But over here library books are free, we don't have to rent them. (Do you really have to pay for them, Paul? How does that work?) Having said that, I do have a few quibbles: I wish the processor was faster - things load a lot slower than my cheapie aPhone and that drives me nuts! Also, I find it fiddly and not very intuitive - it took me quite a while to get Overdrive installed and working and I was already familiar with Kobo on my laptop and ADE for library books! And I haven't even tried to do anything fancy yet like sideload books or install many other apps, though I did manage to get some more free books from Gutenberg. I like to say that the Vox is more than an eReader, it's a whole new hobby!

I use Calibre for sideloaded (Guttenberg) books. open up Calibre, plug in the Vox, a new column appears in Calibre showing which books I have already transferred, the ones without the tick I select and right click then chose send to device, much easier than I thought. I tried putting a few apps on when I first got it and it started slowing down, now I just have apps I want to use, always shut it down on a night when finished with it and so far not noticed anymore slowdowns. |

I am also very happy with my Vox. I have had it since Christmas, and it has done everything I wanted it to do.

I read books on Kobo/Aldiko/Kindle, borrow from the library via Aldiko, read comics via Comixology, subscribe to RSS feeds (via gReader), use Gmail, browse the Net, listen to podcasts, read Magazines via Zinio and sleep soundly. (Blimey - didn't realise how much it actually does!) All I need now is for it to make telephone calls - lol! |

Happy with our Vox though we do need to leave wifi enabled or it can still lock up. We always want the network connection anyways as it is a rare occurrence that we'll read books only for hours on end.

Yes, a mic input would be really nice, like other tablets, for those of us unable to afford expensive smartphone plans so we can use Google phone. Also, a video output would be nice. But then with all kinds of extras, the Vox would probably jump out of the $200 bracket.

I'm happy with mine. I definitely appreciate the relative ease of modifying it, by adding 3rd party readers and disabling unnecessary software. It is also a good all-round ereader. Yet I do hope that they put as much effort into improving the Vox as they put into improving the touch since that would mean that we'd get a much better reader in the end.

Yup, I like mine as well. I was disappointed in the reviews I read after I bought it, but have come to realize they were mostly quibbles about not enough power, and/or speed.

Someone complained about the screen being plastic, not glass, obviously they hadn't removed the poly protector. ![]() I use mine for you-tube and audio books. |

I also think the Vox is great. I've rooted it and installed Android Market. I mainly use it for reading, but also have games, use You Tube, Gmail, etc.
