I'm following all the CES 2012 reports to see if I spot something new there. If you do please post here. No screen larger than the usual 9.7" or 10.1" at the moment. |

I have a 9.7" PocketBook device, and it is on the verge of being too heavy. I can't imagine going to something with even more glass and using it comfortably. Maybe if they can produce larger screens with a plastic substrate, we might see larger devices, but until then I don't see it happening. However, I do believe that a reader of the same 10" size with a higher pixel density would be a huge improvement. Many of us who buy such devices do it to read technical documents in PDF format, and the fonts in those are usually designed for paper and are pretty thin looking on current displays. Higher pixel density wouldn't weigh any more, so there's no penalty that way.

Wouldn't it be great to read your morning newspaper on something like that? I would have three subscriptions, my local Swedish paper, NYT for a global perspective and Asahi Shinbun for Japanese news. Ohh the glory of globalization! |

I think you're probably right, but I'd take recharging once a week over once every three weeks if it meant doubling the pixel density. Besides, now that I use WiFi for hours on end, I find that it eats the battery charge like nobody's business. Giving a little more to the display wouldn't make much difference to the time between charges.

Just to keep things updated in this thread, rumors of a 11.5" 300dpi b/w e-reader can be found in this topic, from a collaboration between Epson and E-Ink: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=165557 Let's hope to have news very soon |

Thank you very much Koda. Interesting video. After so much time waiting, I would really like to see at least one manufacturer finding the courage to put a very large-screened E-ink device on the market. Then we will finally have the possibility to gauge what market actually exists for such a device. Apparently, everyone in the business (except maybe E-Ink) thinks that such market will be very small, but I'm not convinced. |

By the way, after bringing my Asus DR-900 (9", Sipix) with me every day in my bag for a full year without it suffering any harm, I decided to leave the bomb-proof -but very heavy and bulky- case at home. I only took the precaution to prepare a 5mm thick sheet of plexiglass (slightly larger than the reader) and put it in another compartment of my bag, adjacent to the screen, so that the latter will not be accidentally punctured. In comparison to the case, the plexiglass sheet is lighter and -more importantly- doesn't have to be supported by my hands when reading. I am now reaching two months of on-the-move use of the "naked" device without incidents. I am starting to feel confident that even a 12" reader, with a bit of care, could survive such type of arrangement. ...which brings the question: are they really *so* fragile? Maybe mine is not a typical experience.

My last breakage occurred with my CyBook in it's (closed) case, in my hand, when I fell over on some ice. I didn't drop the CyBook, but I still managed to break it by holding the case too tightly. With the glass substrate, the wrong pressure or especially a twisting force will shatter the glass.
