You're giving the average joe far too much credit. And yes while it only takes one, it also only takes one to remove DRM. The only difference is that a watermark doesn't punish legitimate consumers.

My fellow U.S. citizens: Don't forget to visit Wikipedia before midnight (EST). There's some important information there.

I don't want to hijack this thread addressing an important issue, with a
technically detailed explanation of how wrong you are and just how easy
it can be to insert a binary hash code that would not appear in a file being
read as any text or graphic code (ANSI,ASCII,EBCDIC, or whatever)

Luck;

That wouldn't appear in an ePub viewer, yes.
That wouldn't appear to someone reading the HTML source in a generic text editor, no.

Both SOPA and PIPA are looking less likely, at least for now.

Marco Rubio Jumps Protect IP Ship Amid Internet Blackout Protest
Quote:

"Grassroots activism has stripped away the vote from Disney World's senator and made California's senators much more likely to vote no," said David Segal, executive director of Demand Progress, a liberal activist group.

Segal was alluding in particular to the position of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who was once a Protect IP co-sponsor but began seeking to amend the bill in recent weeks. Feinstein sought to broker a compromise between Hollywood and Silicon Valley interests, but Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, declined the invitation on behalf of the major movie studios. Although she has not formally withdrawn her support for Protect IP, Feinstein is now trying to alter the legislation to allay concerns from the tech community.

Corporate film studios and major record labels laud Protect IP and SOPA as a robust effort to crack down on the piracy of American goods. But online giants, as well as tech experts and free speech advocates, have decried the bill's copyright protection strategy for threatening the normal functioning of the Internet and facilitating First Amendment violations by deploying extreme techniques similar to censorship tools used by the Chinese government.

Well, that's good news. I wish more jump ship.

I'm in Missouri, and the reps in the HoR, most aren't publicly for or against SOPA/PIPA (with exception of Todd Akin who came out against this morning, when he was asked over Twitter). For Senate, Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt are for it. Blunt is even a cosponsor.

This is a discussion about legislation that could affect all Internet users. Don't make us close it because some people can't keep partisan politics out of the discussion.

In other words everything is OK, as long as the liberal point of view is being expressed,
but let there be any response from a conservative perspective, and we'll be sure and
shut things down.

The mod notice posted by dreams was in response to the anti-republican political musings of JSWolf. If that's what you call our defending "the liberal point of view", then I know nothing about politics.

We don't care which side of the aisle you're on, keep the partisan politics out of the discussion. Period.

Not the case at all. Don't bash any particular party. Bash republicans, and you'll get in trouble. Bash democrats, and you get in trouble. Stick to talking about SOPA/PIPA, something that neither party is officially for or against. Since no party is backing either side of the argument, and it is only the individuals, bashing the parties is pointless and only causes strife.

One of the most disturbing aspects is that so many who were for SOPA now come out and admit they don't understand the technology involved. I understand that you can't be an expert on everything, I do, but at the very least hire an expert that can explain this to you before voting on it!
