You're correct, it's definitely not Disney, it's Butcher!!! Lea is unusual for a Godmother, but pretty much the usual for a Fae of the Dresdenverse!

I'm still in the middle of Storm Front: So much to look forward to!!

I'm savoring the descriptions, noticing the writing -- on the bus, looking out the windows rather than flying by wondering where on earth (or not-earth) I'm going -- this time around. Don't even remember when or how my favorite character (Thomas) first turns up. That will be fun! And Harry's godmother -- now there's a complex relationship!

carld, hop on board! How can you resist?? (You know it's futile!)

Time to read!!

Hi Steven,

Saw your question regarding wizards and electricity. I don't have any references to cite, but from what I know talking to people with abilities, they often have a really hard time around electronics. I have one friend who I will not let touch my computer or iPod because he is always causing them problems. He actually reminds me a lot of Harry Dresden (and, as crazy as it sounds, I do consider him to be a wizard).

I think it may have something to do with energy (chi, ki, etc.) disrupting electrical currents or overloading them.

And BTW, I absolutely love, love, love the Dresden Files. I always get very sad when I'm finished the latest one thinking about how long I have to wait until the next one.

I'm glad that you "love, love, love the Dresden Files." But since you didn't quote the post to which you're replying, I have no idea what nor who you're talking about or to. Or how old that post is.

I'm 43% through Death Masks and I can't believe how many times I've burst out laughing. I love how much of a smartass he is. This is becoming one of my favorites.

Yup, snark is cool (and the norm) in the Dresdenverse.

Cool The Dresden Files

Quote:
From: Jim's FAQ

How many books is Jim writing for the Dresden Files?

23ish: 20ish “case books,” like those we’ve seen so far, plus a 3-book apocalyptic trilogy.

Quote:
Future Possibilities From: The Mad Hatter's Bookshelf & Book Review

Possibly a book with Ebenezer as a young man in the French and Indian War covering how the universe of the Dresden Files came to be. This could take place in the area Chicago is born so you'd get to see the beginnings of the city. This project sounded far off.

Possibly a Sci-Fi series called U.S. Marshalls or United System Marshalls. Butcher described it as a mix of Men in Black and X-Men in space, which is inspired by Outland the movie starring Sean Connery from the 80s.

Possibly an Alera book many years down the line that takes place in the future of that world.

Possibly co-authoring with Cam Banks on something.

We know from the books that Harry can identify faerie-folk by touching them with iron (I've heard that trope elsewhere). But iron doesn't hurt Harry, and some electrical gear can function around him. And the extent to which he impacts electricity is very erratic: His old car will run, but the A/C konks out, for example.
And ... my comment was:

I think it may have something to do with energy (chi, ki, etc.) disrupting electrical currents or overloading them. Or, I suppose it could be a person's polarity -- the human body is electric.

And, with poltergeist activity linked often to younger kids in puberty (especially girls), there is often a lot of electrical disturbance associated with that (though is that the poltergeist or the person?).

BTW, what do people think of Butcher's other series? The Codex Alera. I thought they were good but they just didn't grip me, shake me around, and make me jump for joy like the Dresden books.

Yep, thanks! Now I know that the post you replied to was over 3 months old and I don't believe that the person who posted it has posted here in the last 3 months or so. No wonder I was confused.

Welcome!! Enjoy this thread!! Enjoy The Dresden Files!!

LOL! I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but I just love seeing people get as caught up in these stories as I do! I just adore your enthusiasm! Right now I'm caught between wanting to start the next one (Turn Coat for me) and wanting to continue knocking a dent in all the Harlequins I recently accumulated.

Last edited by CWatkinsNash; 01-17-2012 at 09:24 PM. Reason: Um, next one is Turn Coat, not Small Favor. Rookie mistake.

I just finished Full Moon and I have to say WOW! I loved it even more than Storm Front. I feel kind of sad it's over.
And I have now finished the only two available books in my country.
I've already sended an email to the publisher, asking them if they plan to make more Dresden-ebooks available in Dutch. While waiting for an answer I'm going to read something else.
If I don't get an answer or they won't make any more ebooks available, I'm going to read the rest in English, because I want to read them dammit
