Nook depends on ADE just like Sony and Kobo it is just a different brand of ADE.

The Sony Reader PRS-T1 is the only eink reader that can borrow eBooks from a library without needing a computer.

B&N's DRM is included in Adobe's software for ereader devices (and software ereaders), but does not need ADE or any any other software. An ebook with B&N's DRM can just be copied to a device, without needing any other software.
Nook devices also support ebooks with Adobe DRM (from other ebooks stores), which of course do need ADE.
All ereader devices using the latest Adobe software, like the new Sony ereader and Koko Touch, are technically able to read B&N DRM ebooks, but most manufacturers have disabled this option.

According to a WSJ article the Nook will get library lending using Wifi somewhere in the beginning of this year.

The amount of FUD and misinformation we're giving this user is really higher than absolutely necessary. Let's try to be a bit more accurate and agnositic folks?

Nope. You need a computer to borrow Kindle eBooks from US libraries.

No you don't. Kindle has a browser that you can use with most libraries and downloading can be done over the WiFi and 3G. No computer needed.

Before you get all excited, check out your local library that you have a card for.

Go online, and see what ebooks they offer. Do they offer a selection that fits the genre you like to read?

Not all libraries are created equal, some have thousands of ebooks and some have very few, and some have none!

and you can only borrow books from libraries of which you are a member...

Also, realize that with the upsurge in people buying e-book readers, waiting lists have become very long.

That being said, you cannot go wrong with a Kindle.......their customer support is not to be beat.

30 days money back guarantee, no questions asked when bought directly from Amazon, just pay return shipping, about $5.

Gives you time to really play with the thing, download books, (free at first of course) and see if you like it.

I have Nook Touch and so far I love it. But to be honest its a personal choice. If Amazons ecosystem attracts you go for it. If you want to read epubs, go for the Nook.
