This is the autobiography of Hans, the legendary Greenlander who participated in four of the great expeditions through Smith's Sound towards the North Pole. Though duly acknowleged by his various expeditionary employers, especially after the epic, accidental drift on an ice floe from northern Greenland almost to Newfoundland with members of the 'Polaris' expedition, it is nevertheless very interesting to get the tale from Hans's perspective. This is especially so when it comes to describing the relationships between himself and his "civilized" masters.
