It may be true that avoiding sentences that end in prepositions is a practice that died long ago but just try to tell that to your teacher or prof after he/she/it has graded your paper.

On the subject of ending sentences with prepositions, people often recount a story involving Winston Churchill. When an editor dared to change a sentence of Churchill's that appeared to end inappropriately with a preposition, Churchill responded by writing to the editor, "This is the kind of impertinence up with which I shall not put." His purpose, of course, was to illustrate the awkwardness that can result from rigid adherence to the notion that prepositions at the end of sentences are always incorrect.

I just wanted to requote this, not so much because of meaning but because it tastes so delicious in my mouth and feels like warm jelly in my ears. Mmmm, antiprescriptivist polemic, argggllll....

Bah, of course I knew what you meant, no need to go all lexicographic on me. I just found it funny that you made a mistake describing a link about language

You can add to this a never-ending list of similar business-gibberish which I don't wish to mention. Sorry, I've had up to HERE with this kind of new-speak by these fools.

Sorry. Coming down now. Watch out below!

"usually" Especially if you say it the lazy Aussie way and make it rhyme with muesli (don't confuse the result with hugely though).

"at this juncture". Just. Don't. Use. It.

oh my, i just don't even know how to react to that. consternation is probably dominant (but also a conflict between profound amusement and scorn, resigned head-shaking, and some other things in traces too small to identify immediately).

as for your question, i *am* my own company (freelance...) so, being an adept of mozzling, the answer is yes.

(Y) - Good general quantitative words like stuff & bunch. E.g. "How much stuff do you have?" "A bunch."

(N) - as of yet E.g. "As of yet, the shuttle has not launched."

Another negative that was my father's favorite was seen in a newspaper - "The woman was shot and the bullet is in her yet." Where is a woman's yet?

nyet : IANAL and other IMLAWTMFTFO*.

*Incomprehensible Multi-Letter Acronyms Which Take Me Forever To Figure Out

yeah yeah, *now* i know it means "I Am Not A Lawyer." and what kind of social commentary is that, that this general blanket disclaimer and exemption of all responsibility has become an accepted, commonly-used acronym ??

(no "da" today : i'm using my left-over nyet from higher up.)

Of all the acronyms, I've always liked IANAL, as I thought it was making fun of its own content, with the added bonus of irony:

"I Am Not A Lawyer", and, by saying so I [am being] ANAL, and (for irony) I include this abdication of responsibility, just like a lawyer would recommend.

Of course, maybe that's not the premise by which it came about, nor even reason for its continuance, but I take my humour where and when I can get it. Life can't always look good, but it can usually look "funny".

Cheers,
Marc (LOL)
