Help needed in feature changes

I'm up to date with Calibre 8.35 and am a long term user - love it, but occasionally am stumped.

1. I noticed this a while back and still can't figure out what I did to cause it:

Re: the box to the left of the search box. In the past, I just entered my search term and hit enter and I got just the things I was searching for on the screen. Now I have to enter my search term, go the to box on the left and change it to "current search". When I've finished, I used to clear out the search box, hit enter, and all the books came back. Now I have to clear the search item, go to the box on the left and change it to blank from current search. I can't find anything in settings to change it back to the original way. Any help would be most appreciated!

2. Re: book description. It used to be beside the book cover, now it is missing - what did I change to lose it - how can I fix it.

I'm sure these are probably somewhere in the documentation, but I can't find them - I can't even find the section on searching, although I've seen it before - when I enter "search" in the Usermanual "search" field, I get lots of links, but none to how to search. Thanks for any help.

#1) Is the button on the Right of the Search JUST bars or does it have a red slash?

#2) Click the Book icon in the lower right

1. Much better!! Never noticed it before. Clicking takes me back and forth between searched items and full list. Not quite as quick as before when I just hit enter, but much, much better than the rigamarole I was doing before. Many thinks.

2. When I click on the book icon, it just turns the bar with the cover on and off, does not bring up the book summery that used to be beside the book cover.

Suggestion: Preferences > Look and Feel > Book Details
select what you want to see and deselect what not

Wow!! I thought the Book Details was for columns only - I never would have thought it was for the comments at the bottom of the screen!

I so much appreciate the help. All is solved now (at least for the moment)!

From the number of posts recently, Something is wiping out this setting for a number of people. I have no clue as to what is stomping on the previous settings.

It happened to me too, but at the time I just assumed I did it. (I tend to change the info displayed depending on what I'm working on, and even though I never uncheck comments, I just assumed I did so by accident.)

I'm running the portable version, but I don't really update on schedule and have no concept of time so I can't say when it happened.

I know, not all that helpful.
