Can they be bought during this sale? No. Are they available in the US? No.

Even if some other publisher has them, it's the same end result.

Tell you what, Jon. You go ahead and boycott them, while other people take advantage of this great bargain. That'll teach them a lesson.

I'd like to get just 3 of them. What are the three best?

It's many, many years since I read this series, Dean, but I honestly don't recall there being any bad ones. You really can't go wrong, no matter what you pick (provided you like the "police procedural" genre, that is).

Thanks, Harry. I like police procedurals, so I'll just pick out three that sound interesting.

Thank you for posting this INCREDIBLE sale on the Ed McBain books. I picked up every single one in this series that was available for the bargain basement price of $0.99.

I too prefer to read books from a series in order but I certainly was not going to let this golden oppty go by without picking these books up. Every single one is right up my alley. I love police procedural novels. Thanks again for posting, I had not heard of these stories and love stumbling onto something new.

So excited!

Wow - how could you have overlooked the greatest ever writer of police procedurals?

Shopping in bookstores that only stock current NYT bestsellers (and spotty backlist in the rest of the shelves)?

Also, a lot of his backlist is a bit dated (although quite readable), which means that most retail bookstores won't stock it (even if they were in print, which often isn't the case).

Which means younger readers don't discover these great writers, since nothing new is coming out (death has that effect, at least with most authors).

It's just such a shame. Ed McBain is to the police procedural genre what Agatha Christie is to the "English Country House Murder" genre.

I don't even know if I like the author so I certainly won't buy all of them. I would like to try a small sample though, say no more than five. Suggestions would be welcome.

To reiterate what has already been mentioned:

There is no "Volume 1" or "Volume One" or "Book 1" or "Book One."

One can certainly choose to boycott the estate or the publisher or Amazon. You go right ahead.

Or, one can do this:

Buy some titles (based upon budget and the type of genre one likes) and dip right in and have a great time reading them - in any order.

And then you can smile all the way to the ebook bank for having saved a ton of money, in exchange for some enjoyable reading.
