Any one else had a warning from B of A that their credit card account "may be at risk" ?
This is my Amazon card, used for books among other things - if this is perhaps a touch of the Sonys ? Or....well, you name it, it's probably happened to them ! "New cards will be sent" etc... but I don't know if it is confined to the UK, Amazon cards, or what..... ![]() |

I've got an Amazon card, and I've not heard anything. Was it a letter or an email? If an email, are you sure it wasn't a phishing one?

The card I have from Amazon is backed by Chase, not BoA. Do you mean that you have your BoA card set to be used on Amazon?

No. Amazon.co.uk offer a MasterCard, which is a Bank of America card. It earns you points which get you Amazon gift certificates.

If in doubt, call the number on the back of your CC for advice (should be freephone). Don't call any number listed in the email or letter as there's been scams both via email and postal in the past with false phone numbers.

I've just phoned BoA to check, and they say that there's no problem, and that, if there was, they'd always phone the customer or send a letter.

cm: the BoA number is 0800 917 5235. I'd suggest giving them a ring to see if your warning is genuine.

I bank with BofA and had a new card issued to me about 7 months ago due to a possible security breach. Luckily, nothing ever happened to my account.
I wish that they'd disclose WHERE the breach took place, so I'd know where not to use my card at (or shop at, period). But, it was just a form-letter saying "Oh your info may have been compromised, better double check everything is ok." |

In my experience, they'll usually tell you if you call them and ask.

I also have a BofA Amazon card and, like Harry, have had no warning. I strongly suspect it's a phish.

Call BofA at their official phone number and ask them. As a general rule, always assume that an email warning is a phishing attempt. |

As I said, when I phoned them they said that, in such a situation, they would NOT send email, so any such email is undoubtedly a fake.

Credit Card Companies never send emails. They will send you a letter or call.

I have seen these warning e-mails for BofA as well as many other banks. Here is the test: Mouse over the hyperlink included in the e-mail that says "click here to logon to your account" or something similar. It will certainly be some obviously non-banking site. I see these almost everyday...
