Hmmm, I fail to see why you would need "devices with differing levels of android OS, differing screens, etc". All you need is *one* device with Aldiko on it, as far as I can tell. Not sure how flexible the Calibre Device plugin architecture is, but you probably don't even need a dedicated device (eg could be a rooted Nook Color with Aldiko on it as well).

I've just started a new thread about this because I'm tempted to work on this myself, see this forum post.

Anybody with intimate knowledge of the Calibre device interface who would be willing to give me (a starter on Calibre) some pointers?

Rgds

Depends on what you are going to do and how much you want to test. If all you are doing is mucking with the Aldiko DB, then you need an installed version of all the extant versions of Aldiko with different DB schemas. USB handling might also change (in fact it has with Android V3), so testing requires access to these versions. Finally, I was intending to add an over-the-air sync, something that requires an application to run on the android device. This app requires UI testing on the various screen sizes and android versions.

Good luck with your efforts.

For over-the-air sync, one possible direction to go could be to integrate AldikoSync, possibly as a device driver just like the "folder_device" driver. Additionally, OAuth stuff would be needed...

I might try my hand at this, but i have about half a million other projects running just now

In the newer versions of Aldiko Premium you can use the calibre opds server. I use it and be able to browse my calibre library from Aldiko.
