Also after reading for some time, say about an hour (I get to do that in the holidays) the touch function disappears sometimes. Powering it right off gets it back thank goodness. |

For those of you who continue to have double tapping problems. I did a factory reset and the double-tapping and menu ghosting problems went away. I have had no problems since and the display does seem crisper, something I had not noticed with the orginal update. Just keep in mind if you do chose to do a factory reset - you will need to reload your side loaded books and your reading statistics will be wiped out. |

There's an additional problem with factory reset, and that's the reason it pisses me off that it's the standard recommendation: Adobe id. Anytime you do a factory reset you have to reauthorize the device, so another id and it can be a problem. And yes, perhaps it's a collateral effect of DRM, but at the end it's a Kobo fault that you have to do a factory reset because they're not able to keep the device in good conditions.

And please, no more excuses about corrupted databases or something like that. I work in software development and this is the easy route for developers when they don't know why it happens or they don't have time to develop a right way to correct things. |

Hopefully, they're working on the following: 1. Selected items are non responsive until a second click is made (double tap). 2. Shortlist doesn't persist on the home page, reverting to Recommended list (unacceptable that there are two versions of 1.9.16). 3. Faded text on page after a long press selection of a word. 4. Faded test on popup if selected after 5 seconds, following selection of a word. 5. Shadow on text below popup if popup deselected. 6. Fairly universal dislike of the advertising banner on the home page without the option to remove it. ltr |

Ahhh, thanks for the advice, to downgrade to 1.9.14 - most of the trouble I had is now fixed - the touchscreen takes every touch instantly and the responses are good, no loags any more. Books I download with the Webbrowser get added to the library almost instantly, no "processing data" screen and it stays in the browser to download further files if wanted. Also I like the old Homescreen much better, though with the touch-response I have now it would not make too much trouble to have an extra tap here and there; so if an even newer firmware restores basic functionality (Yeah, no tapping 3 times any more to turn a page!) I would not mind the new Homescreen either.

Right now there ist only one drawback I noticed, that is that .mobi works fine in 1.9.16 but scrambles text in 1.9.14. I can live with that for now, since I can convert the few .mobi I have to ePub in Calibre. Edit: I must correct myself, out of 3 .mobi-files in my library 1 is messed up and the other 2 show fine in 1.9.14... I was really getting upset especially because of the touch not working, no I trust future fw to fix the problems from 1.9.16 again while progressing with new features... I have a quick question. Got my Kobo Touch Xmas day and updated it to 1.9.16 (actually did it again on Boxing Day due to an inadvertent factory reset). I haven't had any issues with double page turns and only once or twice a dead tap, but I have noticed that when I sync the banner at the bottom reverts to recommended from shortlist. Is this the bug with making the banner choice persistent I heard about?

One more thing that works better in 1.9.14 - in 1.9.16 the default dictionary used was seemingly based on the interface language setting, so even when reading an English book, it would try to look up german meaning and translating from german to english first; in 1.9.14 it seems to either detect the language of the book or it keeps the last used setting, not sure about that, needs further exploration. Any way that is be better than having to change the dictionary used every time I want to look sth. up

I agree that this whole process can be a pain, but there is a solution to your Adobe authorization issue. Before you do a factory reset, deauthorize your Kobo. Go to Home>Settings>Account. Under Adobe Authorization. press the Deauthorize button. This will presumably decrease your authorized device count with Adobe and prevent you exceeding your limit.

Only lasted one week for me, I deleted them all on the web site on Dec. 31 and I got 20 new recommended books today showing up on my touch after a sync, so I need to go and delete them all again. Some of the recommendations are quite funny, certainly most of them are things I wouldn't have the slightest interest in reading, but that might be because I indicated "not interested" in the first batch they gave me.

Since by adding a new WiFi connection I had to sync and by synching was forced to update to 1.9.16 again, now I am back to 1.9.16 and most of the really bad things initially experienced with that fw are gone! (see my above post) So it seems sth. was messed up that got corrected by downgrading and upgrading again (while keeping all my content and settings...)
