Have just added mangosteens to my TBE list - if only I can find somewhere here that sells them...

Don't make friends with an elephant trainer, unless you have room in your house for an elephant...

Once you taste mangosteen, you will be on a life-long quest for more. If you do find them, don't worry if the skin is somewhat narley rather than shiny smooth, or the color is pale, rather than dark purple or black... Here is what they usually look like in the markets. To open one.... THIS IS IMPORTANT!... squeeze them between your fingers, pressing top and bottom together... Squeeze until it begins to 'crack,' then you can pry apart the outer skin. It takes some pressure...

Cool thanks. Now I know what to look for. I saw lychees at the shops today, and bought bananas instead.

Well, it took me a while to learn how to crack them open. The red juice sticks to my nails and it took me a while to clean them, too.

The first time I saw them, not served in a restaurant 'sliced' open, was in the Albert Street Night Market in Singapore. I bought a kilo of them and sat down on the curb to eat them. I had never tried opening them before and was trying to claw my way through the thick tough rind. A young couple was sitting near me eating something and after watching me struggle for 15 minutes to try to eat ONE, the girl came over and said "Please excuse me if I'm being rude, but may I show you how to easily open a Mangosteen." 5 seconds later I asked her to marry me... It's so easy to open when you know how, and almost impossible if you don't!

When living in Thailand, I would make myself sick each time the lychee crop or mangosteen crop rippened. I especially love the Emporor Lychees! They are about twice the size of regular ones, and ripen at a different time... SOOOOOOOOOO good!

My corn crop appears to have eaty bits. Do I wait for the silks to brown off before eating? they don't seem big enough yet.

At my jewellers, when buying Trollbeads or Pandora products, you can save for credit. You get a card and every time you buy something they register the date and the amount. After ten purchases you can use 10% of the total you've spend to put towards either something from Trollbeads or Pandora. Earlier this week I bought my 10th bead and because I usually save up and either buy a set of beads or multiple beads at the same time I now have just over €100 to put towards something.

I just can't decided what. I either want the interchangeable Trollbeads earrings with two earring beads or the Spring Prism Kit. At the moment I want to go for the kit but that might change any minute. Decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the tip. I have been searching online, and apart from supplements and mangosteen juice, I'm having no luck. Our markets are cr*p around here, so I may have to go further afield...

Finally getting back on schedule with my morning walk. When I got back today, I went to the Asian market in search of mangosteens. No luck. I did get some cauliflower, purple potatoes, and avocados, though. I had the potatoes and some broccoli slaw for lunch, followed by an apple, and steamed some broccoli and roasted the cauliflower for later. Purple potatoes are beautiful. I've never had them before today, and quite honestly the taste isn't anything very different, but I love the way they look. They have lots of antioxidants, too, I believe.

Spring Prism Kit. My mom gave all the girls in the family a bracelet with 4 beads, as part of our Christmas gifts. They are fun little bracelets.

ta! They came out white, but still look too small. I'll remember not to let them get brown.
