I have tried a factory reset with no luck. There isn't an sd card in there, so that's ok. As a last resort I even tried the hard reset button under the back panel. I'm getting the flashing green light but it's refusing to boot. I had it plugged in for awhile wondering if it might be a low battery issue. I'm sure it's a setting that wasn't properly adjusted but without it powering on I have no idea how to fix it. I'm at my wits end.
First thing is first, let the Kobo recharge its batteries over night, I'll also PM you the link to the update image and we can go on from there tomorrow...

Did you try reformatting from a PC?

When you plug it in to your pc, does the pc see it?

Another silly question, did you hold the power button for 10 seconds, then let go, then hold it for 5?

All, CrimsonCat is a lot further down the rabbit-hole than being able to just format the device.

I'm working directly with them through PM, and hope to have recovery instructions for all our Vox needs in the near future...

Hi, I followed the instructions given, however File Expert simply will not copy files from the SD card. No matter what I try it says Operation Failed.

Please make sure you are mounted in Read Write mode.

I followed the instructions as given. To the letter. Repeatedly.

They updated the file explorer last night... it looks like something is broken on that software. In the meantime try to use ES File Explorer for the file copying. I will also try and put together some kind of script that you can run shortly...

Hello again everyone,

Crimsoncat - I feel your pain!!

OK, so I've now installed (succcessfully) gingerbreak - thank you Mr. Nobody for the instructions.

However, when I attempt to use EX Explore to 'root' the drive, even after the gingerbreak app asks about permissions, I'm repeatedly told that 'this feature cannot run on my phone'. It's also asking me about the type of Ram I have?

This is a new and exciting development, and I'm wondering if it is perhaps somehow connected to the 'broken' software.

As always, thanks again for all your help!!

Thank you! ES File Explorer worked a treat.

Do you mean ES File Explorer? Or Root Explorer? (two different pieces of software...danifunker's post above says Root Explorer is currently busted)

ES File Explorer. Isn't that what I should be using?

I will try Root Explore if that's what I need to use.

No you need to use ES. I've never seen that error message. You get it when you try to mount /system as read/write or when?

I get when I click on the 'Root Explorer' box. I get the 'this is an experimental feature' blah blah, I hit 'Yes', and then another window pops up asking me about Rom. My two choices are 'Cyanogen Mod' and 'HiAPK'. 'HiAPK' seems to be the default'.

Once I do that, a little grey menu popps up saying 'Sorry, this feature cannot run on your phone.'

The 'Mount File' menu button is already depressed.

Suggestions?
