DONE FINALLY, Summer Knight.

It was good, although personally I liked Grave Peril more than this one.
I will move on to the next but not sure if it will be next or one or two down the road. I want to keep reading Dresden but I also don't want to burn myself out.

Spoiler:
I didn't mind that the story was building up to the final fight, I was sort of expecting it. This book though just had me wanting more, I wanted him to go back to trial and I wanted to see how that would play out since It was such a major point in the beginning of the novel. I guess the book could have been a couple of chapters longer at least, rather than ending it so abruptly. It was still good though and I will continue the series but that was just my one thing with it.

I started Summer Knight in November. I’m at 17%…

I didn’t like Fool Moon very much. I got bored with the repeated almost-dying-getting-saved-last-minute. And I think Harry is too whiny. But since I kinda liked Storm Front, and have been told the books get better later in the series, I decided to read Grave Peril anyway. It was better, especially towards the end. So I started Summer Knight. And it’s now been sitting quietly on my kindle for weeks.

I'm going to try to finish it, or at least read a bit more before deciding to put it away, it’s just that other books have been so much more temping so far.

New reader of the Dresden Files here. I had seen this thread before, but my brother-in-law really got me interested as he is a big fan.

Anyway, I've read the first two (as borrowed paper books ) and, whilst I'm not blown away, I'm interested enough to keep reading.

So far, I'm intrigued by Karrin Murphy and, unlike others here, actually quite like her. Bob is a laugh too. I liked the Tera West character in Fool Moon as well, although I'd be hard pressed to articulate why.

Anyway, I'm going to persevere and keep an eye on this thread. I'm not sure we get the TV program over here in the UK.

Get hold of a copy of 'Side Jobs' and read the 1st story (it's about Harry first meeting someone) called 'A Restoration of Faith'.

You likely won't get the TV program. It was canceled after a short run on SciFi in the USA.

The fans of the books didn't watch it because aside from it being about a wizard named Harry Dresden, who lives in Chicago, the TV show is pretty much totally unlike the books.

I saw the first episode and just couldn't bear to see any more.

It's only one season and you can buy it pretty inexpensively (£7.49).

Hmmm....is that book what they based the movie by the same name on (starred Michael Douglas), a detective thing in Tokyo? And quit procrastinating and get down in the basement (do they even have basements in Florida?).

I don't know about the movie, but the book is a historical-fiction novel, based on true accounts about the bombing of Hiroshima.

Quote:
Black Rain is centered around the story of a young woman who was caught in the radioactive "black rain" that fell after the bombing of Hiroshima. lbuse bases his tale on real-life diaries and interviews with victims of the holocaust; the result is a book that is free from sentimentality yet manages to reveal the magnitude of the human suffering caused by the atom bomb. The life of Yasuko, on whom the black rain fell, is changed forever by periodic bouts of radiation sickness and the suspicion that her future children, too, may be affected.

Spoiler:
lbuse tempers the horror of his subject with the gentle humor for which he is famous. His sensitivity to the complex web of emotions in a traditional community torn asunder by this historical event has made Black Rain one of the most acclaimed treatments of the Hiroshima story.
It is the Mobile Read Book Club selection for January 2012.

As to basements, they are hard to come by seeing as we're "just" above water.

Nope, it's not the same then.

Yeah, here in California garages serve the same function as basements back East, it's probably similar in Florida.

Very true. You find more playrooms, game rooms, craft areas, storage areas, laundry rooms, tool sheds and/or "man caves" in garages than you do cars, most of the time.
