I'm guessing they were both live action rather than animated. Cartoonishness makes potentially cheesy things considerably funnier and thus more entertaining, IMHO. Apparently at one point Dark Horse Comics was going to release a GN adaptation of Gor. I have no idea whether they ended up doing it or not. |

The Gor movies were live action, yes.

From the wiki page for Outlaw: "teleported by a rose quartz ... platinum blond midget friend..."
I'm making the O_o face again. |

I concur pretty much with what most people have said. The first three Gor books were ok, but got very tedious after that, and I read quite a few of them in my younger days. The films were dire and very typical of the fantasy genre of the 80s.
thanks to the wonder of ebooks I've now been re-introduced to some of favourite authors without the need to invest in the paper. now currently re-reading A Princess of Mars some 30 years after first reading. with a long list of others waiting in the wings |

Well I finished the first book. Didn't like it. Won't bother to read the rest.

Yes I have read several of these John Norman Gor books over the years.Frankly these remind me a lot of those old Roman/Greek movies that came out in the 50's and 60's,those that featured muscular male warriors and scantily clad women.
Also a few folks get John Norman confused with Jack Norman, similar names and yes, Jack Norman added to this name confusion by writing several books as part of his Gorean Club series. |
