Closing applications on kobo

This is probably a simple thing but I want to make sure I'm doing it right because tonight my kobo almost came to a crawl and had to be reset.

If I'm finished with an application what is the best way to close it right down before opening a new application.

So far I have been just touching the back button down at the bottom left of the kobo screen, or touching the little home icon (bottom right) to get me back to the home screen. Up until now I presume that either of these two methods basically closed the current application.

From reading that article it appears that I really don't have to do anything more than what I'm currently doing, Android for the most part will look after closing apps if necessary.

If I have that wrong please jump in and let me know.

Yeah, when I first got my vox I installed advanced task killer and religiously went around killing apps. Then someone posted that article here, and I stopped worrying about it.
