I am unable to connect to my home wifi on my Nook simple touch. It will connect on other WIFI, just not at home.
When I first brought it home, I could but one day last week it just started giving me the message unsuccessfull when I try to connect. I am running a Novatel wireless USB modem on a Macbook Pro and have always connected thru it. I n fact my husbands netbook and my Ipad all connect using the setup. MY original nook always connected and like I said this one did to up until one day.
My system is not password protected to get on and this is what the settings say on my Verizon manager statistics page :

[MOD: snip of IP addresses and Mac address]

I really hope someone can help, as I like being able to buy my books from home.

Looking at the Novatel website is seems these USB modems do only connect to the mobile phone network (3G), but do not have Wifi.
The original Nook also had 3G.
The NST has only Wifi.
What was the SSID (the name) of the Wifi router you were connecting to at home? Were you perhaps connecting to someone elses Wifi?
Which model Novatel modem do you have?

If you did have a Wifi connection it could be your NST was updated to firmware 1.1, which causes Wifi problems for some people.

I'm having the exact same issue. I got the Nook Touch when it first came out and I only started having issues connecting to my home wifi network recently. It just says "Unsuccessful". So far I haven't had a chance to try connecting to other wifi networks but one of these days I'll stop by a B&N and see if that works.

This is kind of a terrible bug for B&N, since there's no incentive to buy directly from the shop. I also have a Nook Color and it connects to my wifi fine.

I did not have a router. We connect all our devices with the exception of my nook to internet through the usb 760 by Novatel. My original nook always connected through wifi here as 3g service is not consistent. I live in a partial underground home in a very rural area. I am quite sure I have never connected to anyone else as our nearest neighbor is probably 3 miles as the crow flies. It is definately a B&N problem but at this time doesn't appear to be solvable. I took it to my parents yesterday and it hooked up automatically to their internet. Vickiec

I helped someone set up their NST after Xmas and it was working fine. Then the wifi stopped working. I'm still waiting to hear what B&N tech support tells them because I already tried forgetting the network, resetting their router, and powering off the NST completely. Still won't connet.

Is this the USB modem you have?

Like I already thought this modem does not have Wifi.

Do you perhaps also have an Mifi device somewhere?

Vickiec,
can you assign a static IP through your Verizon manager? Follow this link to see how to resolve the problem on a Verizon router: http://www.opposable-thumbs.com/2011...ss-connection/. If you can make a new static connection link it might solve the problem.

I am not entirely familar with OSX (Windows is my home boy), but how were you connecting over Wifi with your original nook? Was the macbook actually setup with an ad hoc wireless connection with a bridge to the USB modem?

From a touch of reading up, in OSX you have to manually setup an ad hoc wireless nework and specifically setup a bridge, but it sounds pretty easy to do (a google search on "OSX wifi ad hoc network" should turn up what you need). Is the Nook ST not showing the network at all? Or just not connecting? Especially in the later case, it could be how OSX and/or Bonjour is attempting to do DHCP that is incompatible with the Nook ST.

I'd check the settings on the macbook to see how your ad hoc network is setup and play with them to see if you can get the nook ST to see the network and connect to it.

Adding the NST to my static IP list of my FiOS router solved my connection problem.

Thanks!

A static IP also solved my Nook to Verizon FIOS router issue. Funny how the Nook is weak in this way. None of our other PC's or phones has that issue.
